Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Day out Skiing from Chamonix Base

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi,

Im going Cham end of Feb for 5 days skiing but wouldnt mind a day out to another resort nearby (hire car). Any ideas where the best place to head for a days skiing? Ive looked at Courmayeur and La Thuile/La Rosiere so far. They dont look too far away.
I dont want anywhere particulary rammed with folk either!
Cheers

Prestonian, Courmayeur has the advantage that the weather can be completely different to Cham.

Megeve is easy.

Portes du soleil is easy.

Flaine is easier.

End of Feb, you are almost certainly better heading for Italy. Courmayeur will probably be busy.

What sort of skiing you looking for?

Prestonian, Whilst La Rosiere is very close to Mont Blanc, by road to Chamonix it's about 180 kms so not really practical for a day's skiing. There is an off-piste route via Courmeyer but that's a long day, needs a guide and you would still need to get back. Courmeyer is the most practical or Megeve, St Gervais or Les Contamines.

Prestonian, there is a heck of a lot of skiing to be had in Chamonix over 5 days, why not save up a different resort for another trip. Gives you a good excuse to get out again Laughing

Thanks,

I would do but the misses fractured her leg last time out (in Cham) so she has given me a "pass-out" for a 5 day break only Sad

Im going on my own so a day trip out may be a good change of scenery as ive skied all of Cham in the past when we went for 10 days.

Prestonian, Last January the snow was very thin in Cham so we went to Les Contamines, Verbier & Cormayeur on consecutive days ending up the Grand Montet once the snow arrived. If the snow is bad you can get across the pass at the end of the valley (past Le tour) which makes Verbier a quick trip. It was amazing how much difference a few miles into another valley makes to the snow conditions.
