Most of my ski kit has shrunk... I'm sure of it Ski pants seem to be the worst affected.
No new additions yet.
Before the season, I'll most likely be getting new ski pants and maybe a cold weather jacket (for off the slopes rather than on). Was contemplating the acquisition of a pair of skis too, but all the models and names and styles have changed from the last time I looked.

I will be using the same poles (Scott Series 4 aluminum) as I have for the past 5 years and the same boots (Nordica Beasts) as the past 3 seasons. My sub-90mm underfoot skis are the same as last year:
2003 170cm Dynastar Skicross 10
2005 175cm Volkl Superspeeds
2007 177cm Nordica Ignitions
The changes will be in the 90+ range where I was looking for one pair of longer powder skis and ended up with three pairs. I even bought one pair (185cm Nordica Blowers) in that range this summer that got replaced before the summer was through. My 90cm+ skis are:
2003 177cm Nordica Beasts
2006 178cm Rossi B4s
2008 179cm Bluehouse MR 179 (new this summer)
2008 187cm Bluehouse Districts (new this summer)
2007 188cm Salomon Guns (new this summer)

ickabodblue, I bid for one pair on ebay and got them for a quid! However, they didn't include postage in the sale blurb and the lady said she would get them to me at some point - although I did offer to pay postage for them - time went by, and they didn't turn up, but we hadn't exchanged the quid as we were going to do it when she delivered them. Not wanting to be without poles ('cos I was having to make sure I'd got a broom with me to release the bindings each time I tried them on) I ordered some new ones off of ebay. These were a while arriving 'cos of the postal strikes and would you believe it the day the new ones turned up so did the £1 ones in the same postal delivery (number 9 bus scenario). I assumed that 2 pairs were no ill store - DH can use one set to help stopped him slipping on the ice as he walks round and for pulling the kids to the lift etc. and decided to keep both. N.B. I did then PayPal the lady the quid for her skis, the money for the postage and a little bit extra for time and trouble too.
B.T.W. I'm hoping that one pair of skis will do me for the foreseeable future, despite the huge quivers being displayed here.

Lizzard,
I suspect most don't have any at all, I have about five pairs sitting in the cellar but only one of them is really a useable pair of alpine skis. The rest are full of holes or lacking bindings, plus one pair of x country that I put on the weekend we get our annual snowfall.

Perhaps a more meaningful number might be # of skis/# of skiing days per year?

SnowHot, Do you expect to use all those skis - surely you could get through the whole season and not get the right snow conditions to use them all? Come to that you must have a whole room just dedicated to storage - mind you I suppose you could start up a hire shop Anyway I hope you get good use out of all your new kit
|
Well, now, I did say I had a bit of overlap in there with the Speed Magic, Firefox, and Race Tiger. I just need to ski all of them on the same day to determine which of the three I keep.
The Race Tiger is my slalom ski from last season, and I really enjoyed it, but I rarely keep a set of skis longer than one season.

Megamum, Love your enthusiasm ....... but why have you got two pairs of poles?
|
Ah, but you never know when you'll break a pole or lose one from a chair lift, and its nice to have a spare pair!

Besides, men love chicks with quivers.

I NEED new skis!!!!!
I will be buying the K2 Tough Luv, and will probaby consider the Lotta Luv. (the Lotta Luv will replace my current teaching skis, which will then be rock skis - imperative because I've already taken a few chunks out of the bases of my teaching skis.)
Boots always need work done on them although I should get another season out of them - I'm having warming footbeds, though, this season.
I need new gloves, goggles, socks and thermals.
I could do with a new non-work jacket, but that's not a need, but a want and the current ones can last another season.

SnowHot, I've been around, but I've had limited web access at times - it's difficult to post from a yacht in the middle of the Med! Plus during ski season I always forget. (Missed you too!)

Ah, the gear porn thread
Guess I'll keep it going - got an unexpected pot of cash in September, so went a little crazy with this lot:
Skis - Atomic Nomad Crimson 169cm
Boots - maybe, maybe not, depending on what happens in Footworks
Poles - K2 6 Speed
Jacket - Spyder Chamonix
Sallopettes - Spyder Davos
Goggles - Oakley Crowbar, HI Yellow & Fire
Helmet - Sweet Rooster
Bag - Sportube Series II
Base layer - Skins
To be honest, only the poles were unplanned, though I've obviously splurged unnecessarily in terms of quality - though it doesn't half feel good |
Nearly forgot the most unexpected bit of kit: http://www.yorkfitness.com/Cycles-item-442/York-2-in-1-Cycle-/-Rower.html
I'm crap at going to gyms, so thought this might give me at least a chance at getting fit before January. So far so good, using it most days, but it's only been here 9 of 'em

SnowHot, Now you see I am never gonna do tricksy type things in any park...... but, ever since the snowheads ski test at Braehead I've hankered after a set of Misconducts just 'cos I loved the fluorescent pink soles and the way they made the snow all pink and they were nice and bouncy and I'm the wrong side of 40 for godsake!! Must grow up!

If you wait, all that happens is that you get older.

Did you expect to have the same gear going into the season?
I think my ideas have changed a lot, and as of yesterday the quiver I have listed may have changed, yet again, just a teensy weensy bit.
