Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

fil, Not an expert but I drove through Switzerland to Italy via Basel in the Summer. Lucerne isn't too far and just beyond there are resorts such as Engelberg and Andermatt. Roads were good in the Summer. I'm sure there will be more knowledgeable folk along though.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

fil, If you get Google Earth, ski resorts are marked and even in some cases (like Wengen) individual lifts

fil, there are several small French resorts in the Vosges, which is not too far from Mulhouse.
You might also get to some German resorts reasonably quickly from there.

fil, I lived in Basel for a year and did loads of weekend trips to different resorts. The nearest resort is Engelberg (2hrs 30mins by train), otherwise pretty much all the swiss resorts are 4 hours away (again by train). Verbier and St Moritz are a bit further.

You've also got Feldberg in the Black Forest which is only one hour's drive from Basel.

Hope that helps. If you have any other Qs feel free to ask.

fil, If you are planning day trips from Basel, check out the SBBs Snow n rail offerings for combined train and lift ticket:
http://www.railaway.ch/Deutsch/snowandrail/index.html (not updated for 2007/2008 yet)

Also in Zurich, there are coach companies that do day trips. Maybe there is something similar in Basel. Try the tourist office.

Also when the season gets into swing in a few weeks ,this website has conditions on all ski areas large and small:
http://wispo.myswitzerland.com/requests/MySwitzerlandSearchRequest.jsp

Engelberg is the closest reliable resort but there are probably closer places in the Jura if the snow is good.
