Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Elizabeth B, risk assessment in Barcelona was obvioulsy that it was more risky to have illict drinking than the responsible supervised sort. When Richard (then aged 1Cool wnet to Berlin, the teacher doing the risk assessment (not one of the attending teachers) had forgotten to include drinking alcohol. At the last minute we had to sign a form to say he wasn't allowed to drink (all that German beer.......... ) . We were already away on holiday ourselves, and had all sorts of problems as school weren't going to let him go wothout the form signed.

Helen Beaumont, the alcohol thing is a big problem (certainly in this country). I would much rather have teenagers come to the pub with me and maybe have a pint, than take a bottle of vodka and drink it without my knowledge. However, as the 1st option is illegal, I cannot be seen to be condoning that.

Yes, but not a problem in Europe. A tricky one Liz, I agree.

I don't know how long this will last, and not really bothered as youngest leaves this year, but since a change of headmaster last year, school trips are being encouraged ( they've even restarted the ski trip).

Helen Beaumont, "enrichment" it is called. Very big now! It means teachers have to work for nothing in their own time.

Shame they didn't do it when they were younger though, and we could have had some time to ourselves. We don't need the babysitters now. wink

afcbtim, I did this once . . . just one of the highlights was having to climb out and improvise a temporary belay made from sheets on a drunk 15 yr.old who had managed to get his leg caught fast in a 5th floor balcony balustrade whilst attempting to climb up and over a Dubrovnik hotel to get to the girls on the other side of the building . . . at 01:00 . . . the local FD and Police didn't arrive till 02:30. I could mention the puke in the swimming pool . . . the young ladies who ask for 'advice' on feminine hygene/contraception/sexual technique . . . just to see what sort of reaction they'll get. . . and so much more

. . . enjoy!

Every kid should be encouraged to go on as many school trips as possible. They are some of the best fun anyone will ever have in their entire lives. Getting razzed; getting the rid; beating up nerds; leaving home for the first time. The list of fun is endless Laughing

I remeber in my old school the headmaster just chose the trips depending upon where he wanted to ski that year.

It didn't seem to matter that the trips ended up costing £1200+ for 5 days skiing in north america, as long as he got some free skiing out of it. Never went on them.

I managed to get on both my 6th form trips to Zell and Salzburg, under £400 for the week with all my friends. Had a fantastic time, I even beat the instructor in the race at the end of the week. Very Happy

Pfft - school trips. As soon as we were 17 we were off up to the Highlands in somone's dad's company Cavalier. Hostel , bingo night down the local pub in Braemar, Aviemore Centre dodgy nightclub, pernod &black & snakebite. Kids today don't know they're born etc etc wink

Masque, Laughing The one who tried it last season fell. Smashed heel, ankle, femur, spent several weeks in hospital. Mother flew out to see him the next day - I would have loved to be a fly on the wall for that b0llocking.

After a few days of considering all of the advice offered, I made my decision - not to go.

It was a combination of various things, mainly due to lack of fredom (a key ingredient of my skiing), and many of your comments. I think that secretly whilst professing disappointment my daughter was relieved!

I also now know that it was the right decision - whilst talking to the lead teacher on friday, it transpires that in the 8 years she has organised the trip, NOT ONE PARENT WHO HAS GONE ALONG HAS RETURNED FOR A SECOND TRIP - to me that speaks volumes! I also spoke to the parent of one of my daughters friends who went last year - whilst he managed a fair bit of skiing, he came home more stressed than when he started.

So it's thanks to all, and off with my mates again in 09! Toofy Grin

Good to see school trips alive and well, I started my addiction on the trip to Zell am Ziller a lot of years ago. Had the odd beer but we must have been quite tame compared to other trips from comments here.

Can understand your decision afcbtim, our litagation and risk assesment culture now always makes you think. I once had to risk assess staff crossing an internal airpport road (really wanted just to put please refer to Tufty Club) so goodness knows what hoops the schools have to jump through for any trips. Hope your Daughter enjoys the trip any how
