If you've read my etiquette thread you'll know that I am no longer a casino virgin
It strikes me that going to a casino would make a good night out on holiday but which (if any) resorts have casinos and has anybody tried them?

And of course Lake Tahoe in the States, at least on the Nevada side

marmalade, In Austria, in addition to Kitzbuhel and Bad Gastein, other resorts with a casino include Seefeld, Kleinwalsertal and Innsbruck (OK the last isn't a ski resort but it's got resorts very nearby )

I think Megeve might have one, or be about to have one. But aren't there already enough ways to lose money on a ski holiday?

Some of the Lake Tahoe resorts are basically casino towns as I recall - I'm sure someone will be along to tell you which ones 'coz I'm not the best person to advise on gambling, being probably one of the few people on earth to have spent a week in Las Vegas and not even placed a dime in a slot machine let alone dome any of the real stuff, just not my scene to be honest

I believe people in Cervinia go the St Vincent for the casino. It is a 20 miles drive.

Roga mentioned Lake Tahoe. South Lake Tahoe straddles the Nevada/California Stateline, and the contrast is
On one side of the street low rise motels sprawl on the CA side, on the otherside 20 storey casinos tower above you. If you don't leave the pub till closing time on a Ski holiday, don't expect to get much skiing done in this town, the Casino pubs never shut. Theres loads of good (and good value) restaurants in the Casinos as well catering for just about all tastes. The booze is generally cheap, the casinos try to lure people in, get them hammered then part them from their money, if know that's their game you can play it to your advantage!
There is just about every variety of slot machine you can imagine, at every price you can imagine, ranging from 1cent machines up to ones you'd need to mortgage the house to play on (and then some). The big name Casinos on the Stateline are known locally to be very good at coming up with new table games that really don't give the punters fair odds, look at the size of the bloody places and you'll know your chance of winning ain't good! Locals that make much use of the casinos for playing slots/table games etc claim the much smaller Lake Side Inn is a better bet, it's certainly a very different and more friendly place, but if your staying there it is a good 15/20min walk from the State Line, but the ski area buses all go past it. If you hang around playing the slots you'll be offered free drinks, except their not entirely free as you really should tip the waiter/ress but, you can go in there and spend a few hours on the 1cent slots get a few free drinks and only spend $5 !
Flip side I know some kirkwood staff who morning after pay day would be over their hangover and the fact they blew their pay cheque in Harvey's !!
One thing to be said for South Lake is if you don't mind basic accommodation you can get some very good deals, most of the budget motels on the CA side of the state line are actually alright, there really is something for just about every budget. The heavenly Gondola means if your staying in one of the Casinos or central hotels you can just cross the street and board the Gondola. However it would be criminal to go to Lake Tahoe and only ski Heavenly. Equally if you go to the area and ski elsewhere, you simply must at the very least take a ride up the Heavenly Gondola (and the ride down is even more amazing).

Normally in France only spa towns are allowed casinos. So Allevard has one and there will be some in the Pyrenees, Massif Central, Jura belt too.
