Poster: A snowHead

We have decided that we can only afford (both in time and money) one week of skiing this year as we have to move house next year. So we had come to the conclusion that we wouldn't be able to have our usual trip over to Canada as it takes me a week to get over the jet lag. However, I noticed the other day that Ski Safari are offering Humber Valley in Newfoundland. 5 hour flight and only 3.5 hour time difference and somewhere we have never been before. Apparently the Humber Valley resort charters a flight each week over to it from Gatwick.
The ski hill doesn't look very big at all but it looks like there are other things we can do. Has anyone been there and is there enough for a weeks holiday. We are both intermediate skiers but I am a bit of a wuss.
Also I am sitting here with a pot on my foot at the moment as I broke my foot, it is due off in a weeks time, will it be OK for January?

Anniegirl,
What's wrong with Europe?

1 hr time difference
Hundreds of resorts

I am quite happy with Europe and it is likely we will end up going there, I just love going to Canada though and thught it was worth looking at this resort.
Also I am a really fussy eater so prefer self catering and find it really difficult to get decent self catering in Europe.

Anniegirl, I have lived in Newfoundland and Marble Mountain was my nearest hill. It was worth a four hour drive only because there was a book shop and fresh meat at Corner Brook near by (and none where we lived). It can be fiendishly cold in January, has very little vertical, and can get some of the East Coast Ice problems. The weather is capricious and roads and airports close regularly. Unless things have changed since we were there you will also struggle to find gourmet eating or food suppliers above a fairly basic level.
Don't do it. I love Canada too and am having a trip to Fernie later this year having skied Whistler, Lake Louise, Kicking Horse and Mont Ste Anne. Marble Mountain wouldn't make me get on a two hour flight. The others would make me fly 9-10 hours..

What type of thing do you want? I find that if you avoid the tradtional French purpose built places you can get some pretty decent self catering places in Europe. You probably won't find the hot tub thing quite as common as in Canada though.

It would be the equivalent of living near Whistler and heading to Scotland for your 1 week of skiing! I love skiing in Canada too, but you really have to go out West.

I agree with uktrailmonster, go West Coast or stay in Europe.. the term Eastern Powder is sarcastic as it doesn`t exist very often.
Eastern Powder = ice with a cm or so of fresh!
