Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

No matter what kind of effort you put into your ski clothing, and no matter how much sex appeal you have, one thing is for sure....................
Your friends will always find you in your most unappealing photo opportunity.

this was my quest when asking about the spyder kit (which has a nice waist fit for a sleeker line) to find something moderately sexy.

here's my top picks;

I love the rivets down the seam...nice touch. (in BLACK of course.)

Quite sexy, directional colour, nice fur hood! like the sexy zips on the sleeve!

money no object? sexy in leather? (hmmm not so sure about this one!)

the shape and style of this one is quite sexy?

and i really....like this one...this i've found my fav designer!

hope this helps!

yep - just like vogue...it looks great on a tiny girl with no bum!

i got a nice one last year that was a nice fit - an alpha industries one? black and pink, small neat belt and funnel neck...

the only thing that let the outfit down was the naff cheap salopettes i got. i like the new jeans style ones...look a little more forgiving than my michelen man pair.

rivets = places for water to get in.... ditto lots of extra unnecessary seams/stitching.... I would not want any of those outfits....

then again I may be mad as I usually ski in all weather....only land gale warning (I do not like being on a stopped lift in a swinging chair for a long time waiting to be removed) or once exceptionally heavy rain(rivers down piste) stop me... otherwise I ski...start of season until end... evry free day I can get... I ski...

lucky you!

the best most of us can manage is a week away. i'm sure the rivets are just on the surface and not fully riveted right through the trouser! i'm sure spyder, who are an internationally renowned ski gear manufacturer, thought about that little problem!

My ex gave up wearing his spyder jacket (bought with instructor discounts when working at Vail) for a goretex shell or softshell... after checking out mine... Also did the same for his kids...

My instructor and I go out together in rain and I stay dry while he is soaking in his Karbon suit... On warm days he drowns in sweat while I again stay dry..

Shell and layers are much more functional for our climate...

When you ski in warm and wet conditions you need to care about waterproof and breathable... The best bit is you can just add extra layers when you ski overseas - still functional...

and the shells double for hiking/biking/wandering around sand dunes in mid winter/irish drizzle protection etc etc etc... the fleeces also do double duty for other activity...

BTW - I do not manage 50-70 days skiing by "luck" .... I make choices that allow me to live/work in areas where I can access slopes in a reasonable time(4-5 hours drive)... and I choose to go every free weekend... I work hard in summer to pay for my choices in winter...

It is called priorities... for me skiing is a priority... not a once-twice a year indulgence...

Spot on... and apart from ONE outfit I've seen here with a waist - they're all the same... they're ALL baggy and shapeless. All of these girls are photoshopped & made up to within an inch of their lives. Do they look like they've just done a 200m black mogul run? Are they red-faced with a threat of frostbite on their noses? No, of course not.

When you see photos of Victoria Beckham on the slopes do you admire her outfit or laugh at how ridiculous it looks? I know I go for the latter.

Sport Hill has some wonderful women design, with some great function.
ISIS is, however, my all time favourite! I have two pair of light weight Isis ski pants and a heavy pair of Isis Ski pants as well as a jacket and have been thoroughly impressed with the features, water resistant and flattering lines. AND to make it even better, the material they use moves with you. GREAT!
Both pics of me above have Isis Ski pants.

These are columbia I believe - here's the write-up

Ladies Break My Fall Pant from Comumbia Sportswear's Titanium range (their ultimate line of technical outdoor gear). Ladies ventilated ski pant ensuring you never got hot or cold. Ski pants with adjustable waist, belt loops, gaiter, lower leg pocket, hem vents

of course i would try on a good few pairs and take advice about the best fabrics etc. as far as i know columbia are a fairy well respected make - but of course i must stress at this point - everyone has their own opinion!!

i found these on simplypiste.com.

not my colour personally, i tend to stick to black but the shape, style, fit and technical spec look ideal.

well of course alexandra everyone has their own opinion - i certainly wouldn't say any of the ones i posted were baggy and shapeless - but if that's what you see then fair enough!

I see what you mean about the models - but that's the same anywhere, in dorothy perkins, in ellis brigham, in marks and spencers. advertising is advertising and i think we all are sensible enough to understand that they aren't going to post pictures of women just off the slopes skiing their bums off! it just doesn't work that way! sorry and all that!

ps if they are not skiing then might i ask what this lady is doing? (she's modelling the new winter range at ellis brigham (who incidently uses the same two models so think they actually get the gear on them and test it out - they don't use the stock photos from the manufacturer)

queen_sheba, my wife looks hot in arc'teryx. They have jackets which are tailored and functional. Shell plus layers is the way to go. Anything else is either not that functional for people who do want to ski or- except on really skinny women - makes them look... rounded. Toofy Grin

I had a look around Snow and Rock this morning. This is what I tried on below.

Spyder 6/10-great 'ski bunny' look,if that is what you want. but very overpriced. (http://www.snowandrock.com/shop/activity/ski/clothing/jackets/products/SPY0182.htm)

Schoffel 8/10 Good technical fabrics without looking like a Michelin woman (http://www.snowandrock.com/shop/activity/ski/clothing/jackets/products/SCH0073.htm) and (http://www.snowandrock.com/shop/activity/ski/clothing/jackets/products/SCH0076.htm) Second one was my favourite. Price a bit above what I would pay though.

Columbia 6/10 Good value, and reasonable styling, but have had stuff from them before which didn't keep the wet out particularly well. Might be good for a one-week skier. (http://www.snowandrock.com/shop/activity/ski/clothing/jackets/products/COL0121.htm) Old stock sometimes in TKMaxx

Eider 8/10 Some good value kit, with good features and at a good price (http://www.snowandrock.com/shop/activity/ski/clothing/jackets/products/EID0057.htm). I would probably have bought this one.

As for pants they did not stock anything in a 'petite' leg length, so I didn't bother trying any on. And you can keep anything that is shorter than hip length, I would be freezing on a cold day.

i had columbia salopettes last year in morzine and didn't have a single problem with them, even though it was slushy a few days and i spent quite a lot of it either head first or butt first.

however different people have different experiences with kit....

ps just harking back to the spyder conversation about the cost of a spyder jacket (£425) the arc'tetryx shell on ellis brigham is £450!! is that legal?

Helen Beaumont, I have seen a lot of nice arcteryx and mountain hardware gear online recently at VERY good prices (well under 200 US dollars)...

Look around I have picked up a few bargains on technical gear... in fact I probably have a few too many now... but have a friend who is the same size and has no money - so I'll probably share some Smile

agreed! i got my alpha industries one for £70 last year at tk maxx. i just couldn't find good salopettes there.

it's a lovely jacket, fits well, warm, funnel neck, looks good off-piste too. kept me warm and dry.

so wondered why people are so passionate about shells then? i guess it depends on the weather conditions? france at new year was perfect for my tk maxx affair.

i liked last years' postcard stuff but their new designer for 2007 should be shot. leather and puffa? lol

queen_sheba, slushy is not the problem RAIN is the problem... not an issue if you ski one week a year or in a very cold climate or only on fine days... BIG problem for people like me.... clear snow makes one cold very fast when the wind is blowing at 130kph or so... so does your sweat... hence waterproof and breathable are essential...

true enough....there are so many different people on here i think we forget everyone has a different criteria regarding their ski kit. i'm sure the majority only get away once or twice a year at best - most people's priorities are to pay the bills and would jump at the chance to ski all year but have jobs, kids and mortgages!

oh what a life that would be huh! if i could get my pistepals site up in terms of advertising and revenue i could move to the alps and ski all season! now come on people....give me some money! (kidding of course....i know i have to work really hard to even generate enough interest in the site!) however natives have linked to me which i was quite excited about and ski club of great britain are planning a small piece on their site too!...(oops---off topic sorry)

so anyhoo - bear in mind folks - when asking for advice there are people on the site like me who very sadly only get to ski once a year and will give you advice based on that.....and other folk like little_tiger who has a chance to ski every other day and will likely have a different opinion/experience. so take them all and weigh them up before making your decision!

(ps little_tiger. you say you are 4-5 hours max from a ski slope but your location says ireland....?! - where do you really live when skiing?)

keeping the peace
