That's what I like to see. Let's hope that all the La Nina predictions of big snow for the West come true.

We were due to go to Panorama one day last March when we had loads of powder at Sunshine. On the morning of the trip the company had to cancel as it had rained heavily overnight and the resort was a washout. No problems at any of the banff ski hills. We had the best conditions of any of our visits. Hopefully you won't be going late in the season. Good luck

We're going mif-feb, so we'll be pretty unlucky if snow's a problem. I want enough of a base for all the terrain to be open, especially the double blacks in Taynton and the Extreme Dream Zone.

What's the chance of there being some of that famous powder in the Banff area end of March beginning of April? Do you still reckon on being able to offer Canadian Powder Adventures that late in the season?

lake Louise tends to get more snow in march/april - jan/feb are the dry and cold months. I had a 30cm powder day in early April a couple of years ago. great snow, no people. So your chances are decent - but who knows - its in the hands of the snow gods. As always ...

I skied 4 days at KH a couple of years ago (warming up before a trip to Mica Creek!!!) - really great terrain - reminded me of Squaw and Kirkwood but more vertical and less people. Fantastic.
Worth pointing out though that Kicking Horse would be one of the worst places that I have skied for cautious intermediates. They need to open up some easier terrain (skiers left of the current skiing) to attract families.

Jonny Jones,
There is about 15cm of snow in the alpine in the Panorama area. Personally i wouldn't trust any snow this early to stick around except in the high alpine. However, I was up on the mountain yesterday in Golden and it definitely felt like winter was on its way, it was snowing lightly for the better part of the day.

Blitz,
End of March, beginning of April is usually great conditions. As a whole most of the resorts in the area close because of lack of business later in the season, not a lack of snow. Avalanche conditions tend to be very good and as for Powder it can definitely happen that late in the year but as the Gortonator points out its in god's hands. In general, North faces stay great and South faces are hard as a rock in the morning and great after lunch.

Jedster,
I totally agree, not a lot of cautious intermediate terrain at KH. The terrain definitely lends itself to the advanced and expert skier. The hill has recognized this and are working to acquire some moderate terrain in the alpine. they have also added a tube park and purchased two more winch cats so i am expecting a lot more to be groomed in the middle elevations at the hill.

Big White is one of the best places to go for intermediates, especially if learning to ski powder and trees.

Rowley B QC, I don't know why, but in my experience North American ski schools seem to run much more on a last-minute booking basis than in Europe. It's pretty common to see a large queue (or was that a line?) of parents booking in their kids just a few minutes before ski school starts.

Big White is busy over New Year, but nothing like as crowded as the Alps. You might even have to queue for lifts at peak times. We skied in Big White for 30 days last season and only suffered a couple of proper whiteouts and nothing bad enough to stop us enjoying the skiing. Lots of trees to hide in when the visibility is poor
Ski school for kids is exceptional too. A trip to Silver Star would be worthwhile if you're there for more than a week. Otherwise it just depends how much you want to explore.

Jonny Jones, agreed - except for getting sprogs into daycare below the age of 18 months we have been told not to bother booking. And the one time a sprog ended up in a group of 6 (rather than 1-4) the director of the ski school came and apologised
