yes you need to get it waxed, factory wax is crap. detuning your edges esp around the tip and tail would be advisable too and the other edges too if you plan to do rails.
stomp pads are really not nes, but some like them, personally i think they ruin a good board. just put your foot right next to the back binding and put pressure on to the binding, works just as well. Either that or go up drag lifts with both feet in.

cheers. I have a simple solution to that - don't do drags... well apart from the one home to cervinia when the klein matterhorn cable car is shut..
