 Poster: A snowHead

Much of Austria has recieved heavy snow over the past week with reports of over a metre falling in some places and snow settling on the ground as low as 1000m in some places...
Although most of it is bound to melt before long, it's hoped that the substantial falls at high altitude will give the glaciers a much needed boost after last years uncommonly warm Winter.
On avarage 80 cm fresh snow fell on the glaciers, Hintertux is open, almost all the lifts are running. 850 tickets were sold last Sunday.
Sölden: after the WC was cancelled last October because the lack of snow, they installed snowguns all along the WC slope. Now they have 80 cm NATURAL show, the WC may start tomorrow as well. Sölden opens on Friday.
Pitztal opens on Saturday.
Kaprun is already open, additional pistes open from Saturday.
Two other smaller glaciers, Dachstein and Molltal, are also open.
There are also reports of a lot of snow falling above 2000m in many Swiss resorts.

The situation needs to be checked daily. Only 9 lifts (accessing about 12km of pistes (out of a possible 60+)) are open at the moment - see here

Any way to even see which lifts and which pistes are open?

Timmaah Have a look at this map http://www.bergfex.com/hintertux/panorama/xl/ (you can drag it down to see the top). From the description of the lifts that are open (their names are labelled on the linked map), I would say pistes 4, 5 and 8 (red) and 9,9a (blue) are skiable, but you could always call the tourist office to get more accurate information.

Its way to early to predict (snow this time is not unusual as in past seasons ). It will probably warm up just like other seasons and melt then snow again ....
What is important is normal autumn (Oct/Nov) higher elevation (2000M+) sustained cold temps.
Any sustained warm periods after November will not be good.

I was go-karting down the Hochwurzen (1800m) near Schladming yesterday and there were still the odd patch of snow from last week but really not much. It was in the high teens and sunny. Seemed to be some reasonable amounts on the Dachstein peaks but these go up to almost 3000m. I think there are a couple of drag lifts open on the Dachstein glacier now.
