Swiss plans to link a railway tunnel and an Alpine valley with the world's tallest elevator have been put on ice after the government postponed a decision on funding the 50 million Swiss franc ($42.27 million) project.
The so-called "Porta Alpina" was an ambitious attempt to revitalise the economy of remote Alpine villages by allowing train passengers from Zurich and Milan to alight in the middle of the tunnel and take a lift up to the mountain tops. |

I can't quite decide whether this dooms the Andermatt project........ which I wouldn't cry too much about if it does. It will change the face of that valley for sure...and I am not sure that would be a great thing..

That sounded like an amazing project, I cant beleive they scrapped it, you only have to look at what the Aiguille du Midi makes to see the potential.

...and their aircraft hangers. I was driving along the road from Martigny to Visp and this fighter just appeared from inside the hills, taxied onto the road and took off ! Needless to say the road was closed whilst this occurred.

The Swiss Airforce use F16/F18 from the US. When they are delivered the Swiss completely strip the electronics & install there own.

And then stick a reverse gear on it, in preparation for their inevitable retreat, surrender and collaboration.
