I've been hearing the occasional rumour about this for the last year or so, but this is the first solid report I've seen (although I've not been looking particularly hard). Interesting it comes out of Sheffield - one of my first targets in my charge (well maybe not) up the national rankings next year skis for Sheffield!

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Quick, ring Hemel, could be a lot cheaper than building snow slopes! Now if only they could integrate a mattress sized airbag, I might start using dry slopes again!

What about a dry slope with a roof?
As far as I see it pisses with rain all year in this country, so if we had a roof over our dry slopes would they be more popular?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

^ Nah, rain actually makes dry slopes run much better so installing a roof would be self defeating.
Interesting technology this, I wonder how long the reservoir lasts before it needs a refill though and how expensive the technology will be.

Sounds like a very useful invention for dry slopes. But I can't see it being all that useful to British Competition Racers if their international counterparts are going to use it as well.

well then, this looks remarkably like a system that was around in the 80s,... anyone remeber the scott oiler for bikes, way back then there was a bloke slkiing on cairngorm [and our local dry slope] who had adaped the scott oiler to do exactly what this device is doing, he filled the tank with a liquid wax and had it piped along the top surface of the ski and through various nozzles to the base...for the real equipment buffs out there the skis were a pair of veilhaber microfusions [or mircoconfusions as they were more comonly known ]

only £880,000 pounds of taxpayers money to develop so far sounds like a bargain....
