Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Poster: A snowHead
I'm thinking of some early season time on the slopes, proberly Ischgl. Laughing BA seem to have a sales running until late sept, however I can't workout how much they will charge for ski carriage. Anyone out there have any ideas/experiance?

Nothing!

You are allowed one item of "sports equipment" (which would be your ski bag) and one item of checked luggage. So your ski boots would need to go in your main bag or hand luggage

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Arno, You are allowed boots free as well on BA, to quote:

Quote:
One pair of skis and ski poles or a snowboard or a monoski. Plus one pair of ski boots and bindings.

Arno, sports equipment is ski bag AND boots, so you can carry a boot bad seperately. There was a whole thread on this last winter, which was eventually passed to someone I know in BA, who confirmed it.

Hmm, I had a run in where they were of the view that everything had to go in one bag confirmed by an email from customer services. It is pretty rare for me to put boots in a separate boot bag so I probably won't test this again.

The confusion seems to arise from the rule:

Quote:
You may check in your free checked baggage plus one additional item of sporting equipment providing that it weighs no more than 32kg and does not exceed the dimensions: 2.5m x 1.00m x 0.8m (98 in x 39 in x 31 in).

so does this mean that you have to get everything into one bag? anyway it's pretty tedious but still better than the budget carriers

Bob, yep, 1 ski bag+1 boot bag= 1 set of sporting equipment. BA employee is reading this over my shoulder. He can't understand why anyone gets so anxious about it. It is clearly that.
They do not have to be in the same bag.

Bob, went with BA last January (booked as part of a Crystal deal) and we worried like hell about baggage weights!

Turned out that when I got there, the only thing the BA people wee worried about was what my screwdriver was when it went through the X-ray machine!! Our board bag was monstrously overweight yet they didn't bat an eyelid!!

Take care with luggage weight if flying BA out of Geneva. The staff on the BA desks are now contract workers, and wanted skis weighing last time I was there this year, and questioned me as to the contents of my ski bag. They also seem have suffered a humour bypass. I may have imagined that the person serving me was disappointed at not being able to levy an extra charge after the weighing in.

jonesj71, The staff at Geneva are terrible. We nearly never got on our flight last March when the self service machines broke down and the check in staff didn't know what to do.

Unfortunately outside London you are unlikely to be dealing with BA ground staff, they are now all contractors. Here is Scotland all the BA ground staff have just been replaced by Aviance. Sad
