Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Day one of Volkl New Zealand Free Ski Open and Air New Zealand Southern Cup

The Volkl New Zealand Free Ski Open started today with extreme skiers from around the world competing in the Icebreaker Big Mountain qualifiers. Sixty athletes representing 10 countries competed on the steep slopes of Shadow Basin at The Remarkables in Queenstown. Some of the competitors showed nerves of steel taking on cliff drops of up to 20m. The competition disappointment of the day was that last year’s Big Mountain winner, Hamish Acland (New Zealand), was out of the competition following a fall on his first run. ...Of the 25 men who made it through to Day 2, the top three were all from New Zealand – Sam Smoothy, Alistair Eason and Charlie Lyons. The others included lead riders from USA, Australia, Canada, France, Japan and the UK. Jacobina Home (Scotland), Janina Kuzma (Australia) and Colby Adams (USA) lead a field of seven in the women’s event.

Day 2 will take place at Treble Cone’s Motatapu Chutes tomorrow. The heli-accessed finals will take place in the Harris Mountains on the first fine weather day. Helicopter and on-snow cameramen will film each run of the heli-accessed finals. It will be screened to judges, audiences and competitors simultaneously on Wednesday, August 29 at BaseCamp Wanaka, with the results to be announced on the night.

The Air New Zealand Southern Cup FIS Races also started today with competitors from Canada, America, Andorra, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Germany, Great Britain, and Norway. Today, America swept through the finish with the fastest times, but there are four more days of competing ahead.
