Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Best Off Piste near Slovenia ?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I am a boarder who just moved to Slovenia after many years in Asia and am looking to find some more of the great off-piste powder I was spoilt with in Japan.

Slovenia seems to be too densely wooded to have much off-piste, so where to go....I heard great things about La Greve in France but this is just too far to drive from here. Is there good powder over the border in Austria & Italy or anywhere else nearby ?

Thanks for any help - I know nothing when it comes to resorts in this part of the world as today was my first ever time boarding in Europe !

In slovenia itself try Vogel - that's above the tree line and looked to have some nice runs available down the 'back' toward the lake. Usual caveats about geting a guide first few tmes unless you really know your stuff - they don't seem to do a lot of avalanche protection etc and there were some nasty looking dead ends visible from the lifts...

HTH, aj xx

Anyone been to Krippenstein in the Dachstein area of Austria ?

Been ghearing some good things about the off-piste there so any comments from people who have been would be great

Not been to Krippenstein yet, also heard it's good but the sort of place you need to go with someone who has local knowledge.

Good offpiste depends very much on where the snow is. Boarder friends of mine caught Nassfeld after a major dump and had a great time.

try kanin on Slovene / Italian border. high above tree line awsome terrain and no one uses the powder - well a few do but still get freshies days after a storm. Soon to be linked up with Sella Nevea on the Italian side of the mountain which has the lowest glaciers in Europe! Kanin has hosted redbull extreme contests which tells you it has some very good terrain. Try www.basealp.com for more info. Also good for loads of summer adventure sports.
