have 2 weeks off in September (week of 10th and 17th). Was planning a last-minute sun trip but now wondering about going for a slide. Anyone know where's generally open / good at that time - Zermatt?? any advice appreciated

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

"Last minute sun trip"?
Personally, I think Sept. is the BEST time for "sun trip". The day is just as long and sun just as warm. Everybody else thought the summer is over and gone home. You have the beach to yourself!!!
Such a waste to hunt for marginal snow...
S. America or NZ, if you REALLY, REALLY want to slide that badly.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Check out www.elmercurio.cl and you will see that it snowed in Santiago yesterday - first time for 54 years. The snow in Chile at the moment is fantastic and it is still snowing.

barry, Zermatt is supposed to be open all year round now. I think it's the only glacier that is. We're closed then I'm afraid. However the weather in the alps is often very nice in September.

There are only about 10 Alpine glaciers left for Summer skiing. The number has roughly halved in 2 decades. By 2015, the total will be well into single digits.
Just 3 are open year-round today. They are Zermatt, Hintertux and Kaprun.
In the bottom half of the world, Chile is your best bet right now.
