Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi all..can anyone recommend a suitable resort for 3 advanced boarders and two semi beginners over Christmas and New Year? Great nightlife also a must. Worried about there being a lack of snow at that time so I'm thinking high altitude. Anyone any thoughts? Thanks

Western Canada for snow. Normally. Whistler for nightlife..............................if you can coin it.

Have heard Chamonix is a good spot for the night life but is also a bit hardcore. Some mates went to Les Arcs last xmas/New Year and reckoned it was brilliant.. apart from the local frog scum breaking into the chalet and stealing stuff!! Apparently it's high season for theives in resorts at that time of year.

littlemisssunshine,
Austrian resorts listed in my book are Axamer Lizum (airport Inns, 41km piste), Flachauwindkl (Szg, 16), Ischgl (Inn, 230), Kaunertal (Inn, 36), Kitzbuhel (Szg, 148), Lech (Inn, 276)/St Anton (Inn, 276), Seegrube/Nordpark (Inn, 25), Silvretta Nova (Zrh, 114), Westendorf (Szg, 250), Zillertal (Inn, 625)
These are in my book on the basis of good powder, parks, and apres generally and the smaller resorts like Flach are part of Ski Amade 860 km area of piste,
Quick note on the above, Axamer most varied terrain around Inns, Flach good for all standards, Ischgl good nursery area and great for intermediates, Kaun, remote and quiet and good free riding, Kitz, good all rounder for all standards, St Anton, my favourite but not for beginners, Seeg, not much for beginners, Silvretta, runs of different difficulty start and finish at same place, good for mixed group, West, wide runs good for beginners and intermediates, not much steep, Zill - big valley covering lots of linked resorts Marhofen the biggest.
I suggest you go and do a bit of further research, but a flight to Innsbruck or Salzburg and you can not go too far wrong. I am sure a few 1st hand suggestions will follow

Serre Chevalier. Some lively bars and a few nightclubs around Chantemerle/Villeneuve/Briancon.
