Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

The French press said he had a heart attack.

Four women also had to abandon their attempt when their hairspray supply failed less than 500 feet from the summit.

How does "Mount Mustagata in Xinjiang, China" come to be called "the world's highest ski peak." ?

If you haven't spent time (longer than 24 hours) above 4,000m then it's difficult to appreciate how debilitating physically and mentally 'extreme' terrestrial altitudes can be.

I've been twice - Hispar-Biafo Glacier, Karakoram, Pakistan topping out at 5,400m & Kanchenjunga area, Nepal topping out at 6,000m - and while both were unforgettable experiences I'm not rushing to back to those altitudes.

Attempting an ascent and descent of Mustagh Ata while not a groundbreaking achievement is an arduous endeavor.

John Peacock MAY have underestimated the magnitude of the task and/or had 'summit fever'.

 snowHeads are a friendly bunch.

While I inherently assume the Daily Mail will not present an entirely objective view of the facts in circumstances like this I think it is hard for any non-mountaineer to uderstand what is involved. I am by no means a mountaineer but have been at high altitude a couple of times and the effect it can have on your body and mind really has to be experienced to understand how quickly it can kick in.

I found the story of 4 people who died on Mt Blanc disturbing too, particularly the comments that they were fools given that the guy apparently had lived in Grenoble for 7 years and been mountaineering (presumably in the Alps) for 5.

I guess that's what I'm getting at, at what point does difficult or arduous (or how risky) cross over to become EXTREME?
