Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

New lifts planned for Europe

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
European ski resorts installing new lifts for next season include: Ischgl and Kitzbühel in Austria; Crans-Montana in Switzerland; Cortina d’Ampezzo, Val di Fiemme/Obereggen, Alta Badia, Val Gardena/Alpe di Sius, Val di Fassa and Alta Pusteria in Italy....

In Ischgl (Austria) the six-passenger Fimbabahn gondola, which rises from the village, is being replaced with a two-stage eight-passenger model with heated seats. The new lift, expected to be completed in time for the 2007-08 season, will be able to carry 2,800 people every hour. It will cover the first stage in 6.7 minutes, and the second stage in 8.4 minutes....In Kitzbühel (Austria), a new eight-seater high speed chairlift is replacing two fixed-grip double lifts (C6 and C1). The new detachable chairlift, Steinbergkogel, will feature bubble chairs with enclosures and heated seats, will able to carry 3,255 people every hour and will ascend 1,716 vertical feet in 5 minutes.

In Crans-Montana (Switzerland), a new chairlift, the Nationale, is being built ready for next winter. It will replace a shorter existing chairlift and will be able to carry 3,000 people an a hour. The new lift will reduce the journey time by half to less than 7 minutes. The loading area will be lowered to the Marolires station to facilitate links with other sections of the resort, and a mid-station will be installed at an altitude of 1,900m to reduce the effects of low snow cover.

The Dolomiti Superski region (Italy) has announced that several new ski lifts are under construction and scheduled for completion in time for the 2007-08 season:

In Cortina d’Ampezzo, a new covered detachable quad chairlift, the Taiarezze-Malon, will replace the Taiarezze-Fedo double chairlift; Val di Fiemme/Obereggen is installing a new covered detachable quad chairlift, the Prafiori, to replace a lift in Alpe Cermis; in Alta Badia, a new detachable quad chairlift, the Sponata, will replace an existing double chairlift; Val Gardena/Alpe di Sius is installing a new detachable quad, the Sole, to replace an existing triple chairlift; in Val di Fassa, a new eight-passenger gondola, the Toè – Col dei Rossi, will replace an existing detachable quad; and Alta Pusteria is installing a new eight-passenger gondola in the Croda Rossa ski area and is also renovating its Lärchen lift.

Perhaps you know of a new lift planned for your favourite resort?

Thanks for the translation, nevapress. A highlight from that translation:

"Gutiérrez Lump emphasized that “she will shorten the times of delay in the Seat of Andalusia and will end the tails at the moments end, since she duplicates the cargo capacity of the Al-Andalus repair”."

Has anyone met Mr or Mrs Lump, by any chance?

Big one this year in les Arcs is the replacement of the Plan Bois chairlift. A horrible slow charilift that takes you from above valandry area to ski down to Trans Arc bubble lift that takes you into the Arc 200 bowl. What was a 15 minute lift will become a 5 minute speed trip Razz Razz

Val Cenis is carrying on the tradition of installing a new lift each year, this years project is the TSD6 de l'Arcelle which will provide a good link back to the cardinal chair. Sadly they have also decomissioned the Ts de La Berche 2 man chair, but most people may be glad to see the back of that one, the steepest exit ramp i've come across, which usually caught people out.

British disease, e.g. poor management (over many years), lack of customer focus (over decades) and most of all poor planning, investment and no publicity. Just look at the (ex) British car industry to see another example, what's left now under foreign management and doing very nicely thank you (MINI in Oxford, the old Morris Cowley factory and subsequently BL then Rover, being one example).

It didn't have to be this way but I'm afraid, sad though it makes me to say it, Cairngorm is a lost cause now Sad

Just been making a comparison of progress of Ischgl's new Fimbabahn to last years construction of St Anton's Galazigbahn for around the same time Week 39/40

Although the Fimba is a two stage system I guess they got seperate teams working on each station.

I would say the Galzigbahn was way ahead in the construction phase at this time.

http://www.galzigbahn.at/e107_plugins/autogallery/autogallery.php?show=32.Arbeiten%20Neubau%20Galzigbahn%20Woche%2040

Be interesting to see if the Fimba is ready for Nov 30th Opening .
