Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi All
We've booked flights for 17th January until the 21st for a long weekend trip to St Anton for 8 people (4 couples). We've tried to book accommodation but most are coming back saying they will only take bookings for 1 week, Saturday to Saturday only. They say they will consider long weekends nearer the time, some are even suggesting 14 days before . Does anyone know of any b&b's that will take long weekend bookings now please? Or alternatively can anyone advise please on the 'risk' of booking late for a long weekend in St Anton mid January? Will there be availability late on?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Kerry

Grimsby Ranger, welcome to the club. This is exactly the problem I had this year and also face for next year, although our weekend is 2 after yours.
I have had one useful reposnse from a b&b offering 4 nights stay only during that time, but it was a bit too far out of town for us to commit to it just yet (St Jakob). If you want the details PM me and I'll forward them on.
But I think your best bet is to leave it until nearer the time. You may not all get accommodation together, but am sure during January that you'll get something decent.

Its normal/
St Anton, Ischgl etc are not into weekend business. except day trippers from Germany who normally stay out of town .
Think of it from a small business point of view. When you book a long weekend you are effectively blocking them from booking 2 weeks of business?
There are also local issues with cleaning & laundry which adds addtional costs to the Pensions, B&B's.
If you want to book & confirm early I would suggest booking way down valley Pettneu,Schnann,Flirsch,Strengen where they will be pleased for the business. http://www.stantonamarlberg.com/winter/ViewPage.asp?Site=STANTON2-WINTER&PageID=206&Params=PageID:80
Much nearer the time you may find somewhere in St Anton as its still low season when your going however finding somewhere for 8 people I dont know , you may have to spilt up.

Thanks masmith, & stanton, I'll keep trying but also talk to the rest of the group and see if they want to book now down the valley or wait until last minute and take the chance. stanton, I can appreciate the awkwardness for the B&B's with us ruining two full weeks for them. Thanks again for your help.

I have had the same problem wanting to have an extra night at the start of the week. In both cases, having booked the week 8 months before, I had to get the extra night in a different hotel during the 3 days before going (that is when you will find they tell you to do it). In fact one room had to be booked during our journey out!!!
Last time we were a group of 6 and we ended up in 3 different Hotels for that night.
I'm not going to do that again. I think you would do better to book further out.

Agree with Stanton - it has also been my experience that when I have had arrive a day early, or wanted to extend a few days, then it is much easier to do it close to the actual date. Most places in St Anton are reluctant to take such bookings in advance. Perhaps the only exception I have sometimes found is the more exxey hotels, like the Alte Post.

\I don't think you'll have much problem in January for a long weekend break. We usually stay in Nasserein, by using the room search on the tourist board website, you should be able to punch in the length of stay you require and have a bit of choice at that time of year.
Staying in Nasserein is great for getting up the mountain of a morning and even better when skiing down Fang at the end of the day, setting you up for a well deserved beer or more in the Fanghaus. Its only a 8 minute walk into the town at night, but has been known to take a bit longer on the return journey.
Hope this helps.

Hi there.... 4 of us tried to book a long weekend in March just doing Friday to Monday via Fridricshafen. We ended up PAYING €465 per night for a room in the sport hotel in St Anton. Well all I can say is that I emailed all the hotels via the tourist website. What we learned is this place likes 7 day booking.

St Anton is a frightful place. Try Lech -- much nicer.
