Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I was gonna PM the cute one with this q, but figured it'd probably be a better idea to have it public in case anyone else has the same question...

Anyway - some boots have really good reputations, yet the common wisdom is to wear what fits your foot. Is there a case for getting, for example, Dalbello Kryptons and then forcing them to fit your foot?

Been wondering a while, figured I may as well ask Very Happy

I'm not a zookeeper so may be wrong but my guess is that you should not spoil a good boot by forcing it on a foot which it does not fit. I think you may be better off with surgery to your foot to get it the correct shape for the boot.

DaveC, get what fits best. If the best fit is Kryptons then you, too, could ski like me. (or better, if you're lucky)

DaveC, Not such a daft question. A boot too small/narrow can, in the right hands be stretched considerably. This is preferable to filling space in a boot too big. I would however advise you get the mobility of you foot checked by a specialist. Should your foot be over mobile the boot dimensions could impose themselves on the foot and cause neuromas(google it!).

SMALLZOOKEEPER, hopefully not Acoustic neuroma , although I guess some people may have their brains there !!!

DaveC, the best thing is to get the boot closest to the general foot shape, then modify for the protrusions, the idea you are talking about is fine if the shape is generally good and there is a bit of work to be done, but how much are you talking about, a few millimeteres...no problem, blatently too narrow/ low then why bother.... there are plenty of good boots out there, to suit all shapes of foot..... unless of course you have been offered a deal on something Toofy Grin Toofy Grin

What CEM said.

Boots are the most important piece of skiing equipment and its critical they fit correctly, because they're really the piece of kit that will make or break your day.

It'd be like buying a ski jacket with sleeves 20 cm too short simply because it's a good brand...except sillier.

Definitely shop around and get the boots that fit the best. There are plenty of good brands around, you won't be starved of choice.

Fire up e-bay and buy the cheapest ones in a colour which best co-ordinate with your jacket.....then get a reputable bootfitter to make 'em nice and snug - FACT

Well, my current boots fit like a dream (thanks to a friendly bloke in Fernie and a NAKEDZOOKEEPER - this is just curiosity really, since I've heard a lot of people speaking really highly of Kryptons. Never actually tried a pair on to see if they're close to my foot or not, I just have that gear whore impulse nagging since I currently have Speedmachine 8's and they go all the way up to 14, etc - so with Kryptons being the popular choice, clearly I need those to make me ski better Twisted Evil
