Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Austrian Glaciers End of October

 Poster: A snowHead

Seen some great flight deals for October Half term to Salzburg.

Is it worth it to try and get a few days on a glacier??

Anyone got any experience at that time of year, would hire a car, but closer to salzburg the better I suppose..

Thanks

Kaprun is usually okay at that time of year.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Have booked the flights to Salzburg.

The plan is to hire a car Wednesday till Sunday, and just head to whatever glacier sounds in the best condition.
I do like the look of Hintertux though.
Any feedback on past experience would be great.

As we're getting there late on the Wednesday night, I'd like to eat into the journey a bit, maybe stay in a travel lodge / formule 1 type place on the way, as we'd be checking in late.
It looks like there aren't any formule 1s in Austria, is there an equivalent??

Thanks

Hintertux is normaly ok at that time of year. Its bout 2.5 hours from SZburg. The glacier just had a new fall of snow in the last few days. It didnt get a great deal of snow in the winter so the levels are not as it should be at this time of year. i am normaly in Hintertux in October and have had anything from winter days with powder to rivers running down the glacier! BASI have moved the trainers training to Htux this October.
