Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

MGM Apartments La Rosiere

Hi all, we have the opportunity to stay in the MGM Apartments Les Cimes Blanches in La Rosiere next March. Can anyone tell us exactly how far out of town they are. Is it within walking distance of any amenities? We would be self catering and wondered if it would mean a car trip every time we wanted to go to a bar or get any shopping. Thanks Loatie

loatie, Cimes Blanches is at Les Eucherts which is about a mile from the village centre, there is a free navette bus service that runs from 08.15 until about 18.00 hrs so you can get your shopping from the Huit a Huit supermarket, there are only a couple of restuarants in Les Eucherts, L'Ancolie which is very good and Le Solaret, which isn't, although a new leisure complex, including a bowling alley, is just being built. All the bars and restuarants worth visiting are in the village and although there is taxi service it's not always immediately available. Walking isn't too much of a problem the route between the village and les Eucherts is pretty flat it can be tiresome in bad weather.

Thanks for the info David. In general, what is the village like? We are not after hectic nightlife but would appreciate spending some time each evening in a bar with a bit of atmosphere and eating out at least two or three times during our week at a reasonable restaurant. Would it fit the bill do you think?

loatie, the village is very friendly and there's a good selection of bars/restuarants for just about every taste from pizza to haute cuisine. We recommend to our guests; Le Petit Danois and Le Pub for drinks, although Le Petit Danois also does good reasonably priced food, steaks, ribs pasta etc. The Marmottes which is also in the centre Commercial is good as well. You should try L'Ancolie at least once, it's also a very good place to to sit outside on a nice day, it has a super south facing terrace overlooking one the best pistes in the village, the marcassin, a black run down to the Petit Bois chairlift. For lunches , in the village there's Le Mckinley and Willy's bar, nextdoor to each other near to the main lifts, Le MacKinley has a happy hour at 5PM, on the slopes we recommend Le Travesette, whilst in Italy, there's the Roxy, Lo Reindet and La Rascard. Some friends of ours should have taken over Barclays, a piano bar in the village, by now so that will definately be added to the list. You won't be short of places to try and you'll find a warm welcome wherever you go.

loatie, We stayed there last year really liked the apartment and the location. Yes we had to jump in the car to get supplies but it is not very far and did not really bother us. Not an ideal location if you have beginners as they would have to get to village for lessons but anybody who can already ski can get across quite easily.
