Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Help needed - France

Hi guys. I may have made a bit of a blunder in booking flights for next years ski trip. I've booked to arrive in Lyon on 30 December, a Sunday, and to return on 7 January, a Monday. They were going for a good price and I figured I should book them before they were snapped up. I did this aware a lot of accomodation would be restricted to Saturday-Saturday 7 day packages but assumed that it would be possible at least to book Sunday to Sunday and perhaps spend our final night in Lyon. Having spent the last several hours looking for suitable accomodation I'm beginning to panic.

Thankfully, it's only myself and my girlfriend who have booked so far, but I would envisage needing accomodation for 5/6 people as some of our mates plan to book if we can sort out the accomodation problem. We're all intermediates and have no real preference in resorts so long as they're at a reasonably snow sure altitude. Has anyone else had problems with irregular dates like this and can anyone offer any suggestions as to where would be the best place to look for a solution? Thanks in advance.

gearoid, Welcome to snowheads. snowHead

I would have thought a Hotel would give you the maximum flexibility booking direct. Try the tourist office websites for lists of accomodation. You could also try on snowHeads as quite a few snowHead have places to rent. Good luck.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Cheers Spyderman. I'll probably fire off a few emails direct to hotels tomorrow when we decide on a resort.

You could book accomodation for Saturday to Saturday but nearer time inform them you wont be there until the Sunday. Then spend Saturday and Sunday at hotel in Lyon. I've turned up at Saturday to Saturday accomodation on the Tuesday before. They didn't mind because i was paying for a week anyway

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

We have done Les Arcs/La Plagne the last 2 years with Esprit on Sunday/Sunday. I know this was TO but the area was geared to it. Lots of French left Saturday but there were lots leaving Sunday to. I would keep trying.

Also I will let you into a little secret. As Saturday is turnover day for a lot of people. The slopes are dead. Stick wiht it as Sunday to Sunday will give you the best days skiing of your life on the Saturday....

Hotels are a better bet than apartments etc. Try Les Lutins or Le Chamois in 2Alpes, or these people: http://www.holidayalps.com/hotel-le-chamois.htm in Alpe d'Huez.

Lots of people do sunday -sunday book a week like that then spend last sun night in hotel in the main valley town there will be lots of accomodation available jan 6-7 as this is one of the quietest periods of the ski season. Your main week booking may let you stay on if things are really quiet which they usually are !

gearoid, there are several Snowheads with apartments here in LDA if that interests you let me know. I don't thhink any of them could take more than 5, but you could always get 2!

katski, Haven't heard from you for ages - have you been hiding? How was the season?

gearoid, when we stayed at Belle Plagne in Jan, we were offered extra days on top of the seven we booked (we couldn't accept them because we had pre-booked flights) but I'm sure Pierre & Vanacances will be able to sort you. It's a big chain in France, a bit like Travellodge but with onions and berets!! Smile

Click on www.pv-holidays.com/ to have a butchers. Good, cheap accomodation.
