I can even name that skier!... a certain Mike Jardine (at the time Marketing Director of Europa Sports, distributors of Nordica / Look / Dynastar / Kerma, circa 1986-87, photographer almost certainly Jess Stock, location almost certainly Chamonix Valley somewhere or maybe Espace Killy). Well, you did ask!

Actually... come to think of it... from the deep recesses of my mind I think kitenski is right. And I also seem to remember that this was taken before the lifts were installed. It is Mike Jardine though.

Here's my pic looking at Ben Nevis from 13th May 1994!!

Frosty the Snowman, hey, it's a little early for me.
The other interesting thing about the pic is that there was illicit heli-skiing going on.. the heli pilots working on the lift installation were happy to drop certain people at the top for a ski down (I think a few pairs of skis changed hands).
kitenski, No, that's definitely La Grave

Zowee, I thought it had to be somewhere surprising (at least to those who tend to dismiss Scotland, and there are sadly quite a few) - the more I see/hear about Nevis Range the more I want to try it!
For my sins I've done the East coast but never the west, Nevis looks to have some quite stunning terrain - gotta do it!
You know it makes sense.

My favourite of the high entry into the back bowl (or back coire).
Wow, I love that video!

Well done everyone who got it. I can see it was a bit too easy. The photographer was Ronnie Weir.
This is a tad harder. As a clue it is another classic ski shot and a first, or is that, second descent?
So: country, mountain, face, skier and photographer for five points.
I won't ask for ski brand although I suspect they are Dynastars.
Good skiing style don't you think? Left arm ready and head looking down the fall line.

Tarvel...? which would put it somewhere in Chamonix...maybe up around the Cosmiques
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Ok so you've got the country and the massif (Mont Blanc). The shot is from around the time Tardivel was making his first descents but the skier in the photo died climbing.
rjs, It looks like Vallencant, only the lack of a headband and checked shirt has put me off posting that

rjs,

ahh you are very good, Vallencant it is. Arno is close with the location but not close enough... and who is it behind the camera? PV claimed a moral first descent... because he climbed the route but he and his partner were overflown by another skier who made the first run... back in the days when l'heliski was legal in France.
the photo does suffer from what the French call penchage

davidof,
I'll guess Shapiro..on the basis that the set-up of the pic would have taken a budget and he was the best around and in Verbier at that time...??

davidof, grande pillier d'angle? or is it something on the brenva face? hmmmmm
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

couldn't resist looking it up - according to google it's the Couturier Couloir on the Aiguille Verte (which isn't really that close to the Peuterey Arete )

Here is the Vallencant photo rotated 22º - it could probably have been a few more (I wasn't sure what the top right should look like) -Does it look about right?:

Clue, I could have seen PV from here if not for the fog.
