Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Has anyone had any experience with staying at a UCPA place in France?

Yep, twice. Once in La Plagne, once in Val D'Isere.

La Plagne: excellent instruction, big Q in the morning at first lift, well organised e.g. games/activities, very 'french' and superb food. We were in tiny room.

Val D: excellent instruction, good location, not so 'french' as La Plagne.

General: excellent value for money, coach travel not much fun (take a sleepng pill). I know it's a cliche but if you can speak at least a little French it goes a long way in the good will stakes.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks Nick,
sounds like you'd recommend it!

Thinking of staying in the one in Tignes - party of 12. I'll probably take the off piste option.

Any further comments/experiences?

Thanks

UCPA, Union Nationale des Centres Sportifs de Plein Air

French sports club - they do lots of sporting holidays at very reasonable prices, and you get all sorts of nationalitties. Very popular with Belgians, Swedes and the Ducth apparently

on a bit of a tangent, when I googled for UCPA to get the link, one of the sponsored links was for a place called "action outdoors" who do all-inclusive ski holidays.

Yould think, though, that if they go to the expense of sposored links in Google (which aren;t cheap), they'd have a site that works.....

Ok, so what is Tignes nightlife like then guys?
I know it is nothing compared to the hedonistic ways of VDI, but will it cater well for a group of 12 mid 20's male & females? Toofy Grin

Well, there's a ten pin bowling alley in Le Lac and a pool table in the pub on the road up to the Village Montana.....

If Tignes is anything like La Plagne they have events organised most nights, including those French Rock 'n' Roll dances the French seem to like but also disco, casino night etc.

It's all quite studenty (and presumably you're all recent students ??) but good fun.

If you're on a budget, it's probably the best deal you'll get in a major ski resort. And if you're on a budget you don't want to think of buying a beer in VDI !!

There's also one at Val Thoren which is down the hill, a bit but nightlife there was quite good.

If you're on the coach just make sure you've got lots of stuff to amuse yourself on the way.

Hit and miss.

Went one year and the place was buzzing. Went a couple of years later at exactly the same time of year and it was like a morgue most nights.

Val Claret tends to be a bit livelier than Le Lac. Only been down to Le Lavachet once and it wasn't great so we never went back. Bus runs between the villages all through the night, but only once an hour after midnight.
