I am thinking of using the tunnel for the first time this year, do you buy your tickets then just turn up and get on or do you have to book a time.
cheers

jase2472, you need to book really. Best thing to do is book on line. The you can use the automatic check in facility.

You can just turn up and buy a ticket BUT it costs much more, over double. Best to book in advance for a set time (the rates vary a lot for different times). If you arrive early they are very flexible and will let you on the next train with space, dont know how late you can be. Its great takes less than half the time of the boat and is unaffected by storms j

Another vote for Le Chunnel - very easy to use, quick and efficient and straight off the other end with no messing around.
Buy tickets online and use self-serve - standard ticket allows you 2-hours flexibility each way if early or late

I have just called them earlier to book our crossing for Christmas/New Year. I normally pay the fee for the dog as part of the booking, but was told that I can't this time . I could understand if it was insurance, or breakdown cover, as extras, but the charge for the dog is part of the fare.

If you havent used the self check in for the Channel Tunnel before please please please go through the tutorial on the website before you go! It isn't difficult it's a touch screen!

boredsurfin, last time we used it, it was more "smack screen repeatedly" than "touch"

boredsurfin, I don't think there was any confusion, certainly not in my case, simply that the screen would not respond to being touched (oh err) - hence the smack hard
I can only assume the touch screen was on the blink as have never had a problem with them before

boredsurfin, deffo smack screen . We couldn't get it to work last time, turned out they had forgotten to put our dog on the system at the pet inspection place. Sea France was much easier. they just gave us the microchip scanner at the check in booth, we scanned the dog, they checked the no. . We have missed our departure at Eurotunnel before, then found the next crossing was cancelled.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

While I'm still hugely in favour of Eurotunnel - the other common problem is that the train you booked on, particularly v.early, may disappear. If bookings are very quiet they do tned to merge two trains into one

Email back from Eurotunnel I can no longer pay for my dog with my vouchers, so one of my vouchers will now expire before I can use it.

Last time we went even the helpful member of staff who came over to explain how to use it (we knew already!!) had to smack it several times, ring the control booth to reset it, smack it some more and reset once more before it would let us through!! Simple they may be....touch sensitive they ain't!!

I have just rang them again, booked for the same times as I requested earlier, and despiute the email I just received was allowed to use the vouchers for the dog fee.
