Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Help on a group trip needed...

 Poster: A snowHead

Hi All,

Im trying to put together a trip for myself and 10 or so friends - looking to stay in a Chalet or small hotel in the 2007/8 season. I havent put one together before and was wondering if anyone could proffer any advice or good experiences they have had in such a situation! I dont know if there is a best time to go for groups (not school hols obviously), or if any operators specialise in groups. Basically I know nothing, and am already beginning to regret suggesting the idea!

Alternatively if there is another thread I should be looking can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance.

Matt

medders, The very best advice I can give you is....don't do it!! Being the organiser of a group trip is a thankless task and no matter where you choose, what hotel/chalet you book, how cheap or expensive it is....it'll be your fault!!!

Failing that.....Iglu are a great place to start, give them a ring, describe your group standards and preferences, your preferred dates and budget and they'll give you a short list to work from.

medders, main thing is to be absolutely ruthless and don't let anyone mess you around. Give them a set deadline by which to respond to you, and if they don't, they don't join you

I'd agree with eng_ch. My approach is to find something specific that I want to do and then ask people if they want to join me rather than asking loads of people what their requirements are and then trying to reconcile them all. I do take into account what I think people will want when thinking of what to do but ultimately it's a take it or leave it deal.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Knowing you and some of your mates it has to be Austria. Food isnt paramount so why not try www.crystalski.co.uk towards the end of January. The have 4 suitable chalets in St Anton. Party party party.

medders,

It will be a handful if you don't tend to organise things very well. If you are the sort of person that can absorb loads of info on the resort so therefore you can be prepared and know about all sorts of things then you will breeze it. If you are worrier then it will be a hard job...so make sure you know the good bars as that will save your reputation....!!

Knowing you medders you want lively apre so look at places like St Anton and Solden as starters. Or look at the livelier places in France like ADH or L2A.

Chalets are good for bonding and the chalet girl will be a good source of parties etc... Maybe Verbier as well. You are more on your own in hotels altho we prefer these nowadays..!!!

medders, I'm trying to do this for a trip to Val Thorens in January but it's more about making sure we spnd our money wisely than any thing else. Our group is all workmates/friends who get on anyway and we did it to La Plagne in March (and it worked out well) but we just want to make sure that we don't waste money!!

homphomp, you're spot on with it being a thankless task but we managed to share reponsibility and we were all happy... for most of the time!!!

Working out everyone's budget is the painful; bit, ebcause someone will alway have more or les to spend than the others, and it's not fair to expect people to shell out when they can't afford to. Medders, set yourself a group budget and work to that I say.

Good luck Very Happy

What ever you do make sure you get money up front and early! I have organised several trips and nearly got landed once. People tend to back out if they haven't paid a large deposit. Good Luck - it is never easy and you may not get much thanks either.

Its our 10th trip this year , and my 10th anniversary of organising it, pool of 19 for 16 places. I have 11 deposits, 5 maybes, 1 definite no (most helpfully) & 1 guy who hasn't paid for last year yet (but I know where he keeps his 20 year old claret!)

Go where & when YOU want and tell the others what to do! Good luck

I've don't it the last few years, my main tips are

- get it down to short list of resorts and accomodation
- set up a spreadsheet to monitor what has been paid
- set deadlines for money will before the actual ones
- keep note of everything agreed with the company and take it with you on the holiday.
- if people are late pair harrass them

The operators I've used are Airtours, Rocketski and Freshtraxxx.

France is good for groups, but Austria is awesome, we were in Saalbach a year ago

Most of all if you organise it you go where you want to and stay where you want to.

Anyhow good luck
