The MetO should be releasing its long range model prediction for next winter soon.

So what do you think for Europe? More of the same pattern, worse or a swing the other way, and we get the snow North America had this season.

Sage, Who can say? We could easily have a stonking season next winter - just can't telll till it gets here. This one was OK in the end, last year was brill, can't remember any further back. Personally though, I wouldn't want another 7 weeks of -20 at 09.00 in resort as we did 2/3 years ago - much too cold! This last winter was much nicer for working in!

easiski, year just finished was ok, esp above 2000m,
2005/06 stonker of a year
2004/05 absolutely terrible year, and it snowed more in the last two weeks of the season than it did the whole rest of the season,
2003/04 incredibably wonderful season, and it started in Oct
2002/03 (i wasn't here( but the other half was and he says it was good, not as good as last year but not as bad as this year, then he broke his pelvis!
thats as far back as i can go!
but i did go to 2 alps in 2001/02 and i also went to chamonix and that season was total pants!
so there you go!
they say here that you cant get two bad season's in a row................ so i say........................
BRING ON SEASON 2007/08

Sage, be careful... not all of North America got good snow this year. Colorado was just OK, the northeast had nothing until February, and so on.

You ALREADY got some of N.American season! The east coast didn't get ANY snow till mid-Feb. And it just kept on snowing all the way till the end of April!
All the east coast resorts ended up extending their season for a couple weeks.
Frankly, I like this late season snow stuff. I couldn't care less about X'mas. I'm usually too busy with the holiday to even think of skiing!

I was forgetting things were a bit strange in N America too. Massive dumps in parts of Canada, but some resorts closing down in the USA.

stanton, speaking as someone who has been in resort all season from beginning to end, I can safely say you are talking unmitigated nonsense.

Well, so some people were telling us. If we'd listened to them we'd none of us have bothered. At our resort where skiing only goes up to 2000m most of the pistes were fine for most of the season and you could ski back to village level until mid April. I really enjoyed not having to dress like an Arctic explorer to go out for the day. More fresh snow would have been nice, as would the possibility of skiing the more distant areas at lower altitudes, which were very poor or closed for much of the season. It was neither a disaster nor a triumph. And the posts above illustrate how the swings and roundabouts have worked for the past few years. I am not even going to think about next season's snow till at least November; let's enjoy some summer. I'm about to go and scrub some weed off the bottom of my sadly neglected boat...

Sage, aah - he's your brother! We did have fun, and they learnt very quickly. I think they're doing a bit at Norwich from time to time. (Totally off topic).

brian, I've just been looking there. It looks even better on the Cervinia side. April and May seem to be swapped round this year, certainly in the Western Alps and Southern England. Strange!
