Poster: A snowHead

Mohawk-headed Glen Plake was turned back at the Canadian border on his way to talk about skiing at Whistler's Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival last week. It would seem that Plake was convicted for possession of marijuana some years ago. Apparently, Canadian border officials are rejecting more US visitors because of new technology that allows them to better tap into files maintained by U.S. Homeland Security....See: http://www.summitdaily.com/article/20070428/NEWS/104280070

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Can understand why Whistler tourism is a bit upset - if every US visitor with a DUI, misdemeanor posseession etc in their past is barred then there may be a significant drop off in visitor numbers.

el Hen, I'm just so pleased that we live in an otherwise perfect world - so we can pay woollen headed morons (I am making an assumption here) to protect our countries from all the evil, misguided, extreme skiers??!! in the world. I thought the US were bad, it's sad to see Canaduh going the same way.

A little-known useless alledged fact is that the conviction happened around the time he was making Blizzard of Ahhhhhs in '88 hence why a large proportion of it centred around Chamonix. Can't remember exactly how the story goes... I think he fled and exiled himself in Cham trying to avoid prosecution and potential prison in the US.
For some reason the Canadians have got very picky about who they want in their country. Pal of mine was turned around at Vancouver a few years ago because he'd been done for drink driving here in the UK. OK, it's a criminal offence but hardly the stuff of terrorists.

So, are we going to see any international snowboarding contests in either the US or Canada anytime in the near future?

richjp, I suppose the US can just revert to type and have the World snowboarding/etc. with drug free US riders only. If they can find any...
