Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Broke my snowchains!

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
On arriving at the valley leading up to our place in Oz, ADH the week before last we were caught in a very heavy snowfall and as the plough hadn't yet come through we put the chains on. All was fine until the last little hill up to the apartment when in around 8" of fresh snow the rubber tensioner snapped and the chain wrapped itself around the inside of the wheel. After much swearing we untangled the mess from behind the wheel and bodged the chain back on for the last 100 metres. Luckily there was no damage by the flailing chain although I did stop pretty sharpish!. Anyone else encountered this? the chains are Weissenfels and around 6 years old but only used once or twice and cleaned and stored carefully each time. The rubber didn't appear to have perished, just snapped.

Ugh. Sounds like a mess. We have broken chains, though not because the rubber snapped and, fortunately, they hadn't tangled themselves up and we were able to stop as soon as we heard the unaccustomed noise. I would have though that chains should last more than 6 years if not much used. Just bad luck, I guess.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I'd speak to the manufacturer and see what they can offer .....
