skisimon, keep looking... You'll be lucky if they allow you out of the country without a passport, never mind getting into Austria

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

When you get back from your trip, assuming you either found your passport or somehow used your military training to smuggle yourself into Austria, make sure you let us know what it was like! And how you got in!
I hope your there now enjoying lots of snow and having a good time!

Should have blagged a NATO Order before I left! Unfortunately it didn't work (although thoughts even drifted as far as a ferry crossing in a car boot or swimming the channel - the things we'll consider for skiing). Alas, I am stuck here, but shall make the most of an opportunity to spend a few days in London. The lady at Waterloo working for Eurostar was very helpful though (even tried persuading French border control to let me through...)
All is not lost though, I am off to Bavaria next week for more skiing, so I should get my planks on at some point!

You may be able to get back in if you talk very nicely to our Immigration officials and they will want to know few things about you.
It is not as though a lost passport is an unknown thing..but would I risk it on the outward.... hmmmmm, tough call

Friend lost passport this year on the boys outing. Was able to get out of Germany buying travel documents from the border guard (not dodgy ones). The guard said that he or the state authorities do not have a problem with you travelling with any form of photo ID. The rule was a company rule, yes you guessed it a Ryanair company rule. They look at non shengen countries (Brits and Paddy's) a bit longer but would not have a problem, so you could be allright if you were not going with another "jobsworth" carrier.
Sorry to bring this to the forum a bit late, but I just logged on after a couple of days absence.

It's only ever in the UK that anyone actually looks at our passports. No-one seems to bother elsewhere in Europe, even Swiss guys in Geneva just wave us through.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

When I lost my passport I travelled from St Kitts on a letter from the honorary consul asking the authoriites to let me through, but in fact he had no recognised authority, and my train season ticket! Sailed through St Kitts, Antigua and Gatwick !
