Just returned for a great week's skiing in Chamonix. For those who are contemplating a trip , beware of the Hotel Gustavia, especially if you are staying in any of the first floor rooms!! The noise from the bar and lobby is audible in the rooms and can go on until quite late (2am or later). We had several sleepless nights. The night staff dont seem to be able to excercise any control over the bar door adjoining the lobby or of people gathering in the lobby. I did make a complaint but the so called peace only lasted for one night. So beware, the staff in the hotel are quite young and seem to have a different attitude to what peace and enjoyment actually means. If you are staying at the Gustavia go for a room on the third floor.
The bar itself (Chambre Neuf) is a very good apres bar from 5-7 where a v goog live band plays to an extremely packed house and I mean packed!! You have been warned.

The Gustavia and Chambre Neuf are well kknown nite spots and rowdy with it. Can't say I would expect a quiet time if I was there meself

djk, We were there last week too. It's a great bar, but I can't imagine what it must be like to try and sleep above it. The bands are good and as for any space to drink or move..... it makes London Underground feel like an open field in comparison!  When they run out of room, they just dance on the chairs.
Next time you go to Chamonix, I can recommend the Hotel Prieure (we went with Inghams). It's a 2 minute walk from the main street but very quiet and everything is a short walk away. Also has private bus in mornings.

If you drink enough and/or are tired enough then you'll sleep regardless of the noise.
