Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Where to go USA ski/board working holiday

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hey guys still trying to chase down peoples recommendations... 3 Aussie guys maybe 4 want to do a working holiday in the mountains in the states. We've done similar in Banff... Lived in banff and worked for Sunshine Villiage.
What mountains would people reccommend... Decent nightlife good terrain for backcountry and big mountain...

People have said Brekenridge and Tahoe... Something we enjoyed about Banff was the oportunity for us to travel on our days off to surrounding mountains which were in a close vacinity...

any info would be good.

I've been looking at Brekenridge myself for the winter 07/08 season. A friend of mine went to visit her brother out there who is doing season right now and said it was amazing. He is a boarder and she is a skier. She said she freaked out a little when her ski's disappeared under the snow because it was powder which is something that only made it sound more interesting to me! Madeye-Smiley

You'll have to look at the BUNAC website to check out the visa stuff for the US, I'm not sure how easy these are to get (I know you can't get one for Canada now until feb 2008) and they might be expensive I'm not sure.

Let me know what you find out as I can't decide to do a season in Europe or the US.....

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

If you have any experience of working in a ski resort then don't go through the likes of BUNAC or student visas, find a resort which will sponsor H2B temporay worker visas and do it off your own back, more flexibility and certainly doing it from the UK all I had to pay for getting the visa was a £60 fee for the visa interview.

Act soon though, resorts in CA will apply for H2B visa clearence in early May as it can take 6months for the process to grind along. Kirkwood near Lake Tahoe will sponsor H2B visas for a range of jobs including lift operations. Kirkwood has on mountain staff accommodation which is great for powder days and very convienent, but they also operate a free staff shuttle from South Lake Tahoe, no shortage of night life, the bars in the casinos never close on the Nevda side of the Stateline.

Kirkwood isn't a big resort in terms of sprawling terrain like Heavenly, but it's bigger than you'd think on first impressions and there is a huge amount of excellent advanced terrain, the mountains just one big natural playground, steeps, chutes, cliffs, wide open bowls. I think a smaller resort is more fun to work in, you get to know people better and it's not like a big faceless organisation. Plus loads of other resorts in easy reach of South Lake, Kirkwood, Heavenly, Homewood, Mt Rose, Squaw, Sierra at Tahoe, Northstar and Alpine Meadows.

Well, both Breck and Tahoe are in the middle of some serious mountain ranges. So no shortage of virgin terrain on your off days...
