Poster: A snowHead

The point of Avy controlled off piste area is not to ski on avy debris but to know that the cornice above your nice freah slope has been stomped on to death already, bowls have been ski cut in multiple places around the usual fracture points, charges have been thrown in the top of chutes etc.
Generally in N America an inbounds closed rope is a pretty good indicator that you don't want to be there anyway.
Of course snowpack stability varies considerably by geography as well as all the other usual factors so maybe such an approach in Europe may not work in the same way.

Mosha Marc, I can think of a few in Avoriaz although they're really runs where you can go a mulititude of ways rather than areas as such.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Obertauern: piste numbers, piste markings to show the colour of run you are on, piste information boards when you leave the lifts! Please, if anyone from the tourist office is reading this "can you just produce a map and piste names/markings like every other resort?"
