Poster: A snowHead
|
My other half has been talked into a very quick trip via Geneva (Friday to Sunday!) and hopes to ski for a day and a half. She's never done it before and I've told her she's nuts as it's just not long enough!! Anyway, I've said Tignes, but does anyone have any other suggestions for a beginner close enough to Geneva>

mikehall58, Tignes is one of the longest transfer from Geneva. Val Thorens is about 30 mins closer IMHO which could be a factror if time is an issue. lessons lessons lessons

mikehall58,
Saas Fee is meant to be very pretty with a good glacier but I haven't been.

mikehall58, was it you went to Flims/Laax 3 or 4 weeks ago? How did you like it? Not a suggestion from GVA, of course

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Val T would certainly be good, better than Tignes I'd say, but it's still quite a long way from Geneva. Depending how late in April, and what happens to the weather between now and then, she might be able to find three hours of spring skiing (after the ice and before the slush) closer to Geneva. A complete beginner does not need a lot of space or snow - and three hours will probably be enough. Look at the resort closing dates; I don't know whether Megeve has a good beginner space at the top. Les Saisies village beginner slopes should be skiable until 27 April (Hour and three quarters from GVA). Flaine might be OK too, though like Val Thorens it lacks charm.

mikehall58, Saas fee is nice and does have a glacer, as T Bar, says, but it's a fair old drive from Geneva.
Les Diablerets is close and has a glacier.
It's not ideal for beginners but Chamonix is fairly close and is open. There is skiing to be had for beginners but it's not that easily accessible.

mikehall58, about one hour's drive from Geneva, based on current conditions and "normal" weather going forward I think your O.H. would have fun;
* staying in Morzine and skiing Avoriaz, (I think Avoriaz closes April 30th
* staying in Vallorcine and skiing Le Tour (that's at the head of the Chamonix Valley),
* staying in Chamonix and skiing Brevent/Flegere/Le Tour,
* staying in Samoens/Flaine(?) and skiing higher Flaine (that recommendation is questioned only as I have never been there myself)...
how "beginner" is she?

Pretty sure Avoriz is open till the end of the month, and Avoriaz/Morzine are only just over an hour from Geneva.
