Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Raised bindings vs flat mounted bindings?

Hey guys -

Got some twintips a while back this season but been finding them a bit weird - experience is entirely different - wondering if that could be cos I'm used to my carvers (Nordica SM 14's with their x-balance thingamy which I assume raises the mount up like a rental shop's variable part). My twins are mounted straight to the ski so there's nothing between actual binding and ski.

Reckon getting some form of thing to put in the middle is a good idea? FWIW they're 1080 foils with salomon 912ti's.

Cheers,
Dave

Get used to them as they are. I had 1080s with the same bindings - loved them. Then skied 1080 Foils with same bindings - loved them too.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

toiletduckuk, it will feel different, much more leverage is required but you'll find after a while it's more responsive to ski without a riser. I hate them, but that's just me.

toiletduckuk, I've a bit of a riser on my carvers, and flat mounted all mountain skis.

My skill levels are such, and the skis so dissimilar, that I can't notice the risers making a difference snowHead

showing complete lack of knowladge.

What exactly does raising the binding do. if the boot is an extention of the foot the only thing it would seem to do is to make you taller. Can Taller people ski better than shorter ones.

Went out on my twins again today, I can't really explain why but they make my feet hurt rolling eyes

I may be skiing a bit weird, it's alright when I zoom off and can easily roll them onto edge but when I'm going at parent-speed it feels like my boots suddenly don't fit anymore and toes hurt/heels ache - they're like a glove on my carvers Evil or Very Mad

Any ideas anyone? Considering looking into this riser plate, but more likely gonna sell em and pick up something fatter for next season...

toiletduckuk, I have the same foils and bindings, and am happy with them. I also have some atomics with riser plates. They are different skis, used a bit differently. Risers help steeper angulation at speed on pistes, although the relative stiffness of the atomics also contributes. If salomon thought they could charge you extra for the bit of plastic with the foils, they would. I would stay with them the way they are.
