Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

PhillipStanton, 'course in my day there was only a 0.5% success rate, we had to barrel through moguls the size of skyscrapers... on one ski (215 at least), no sleep for weeks, camping at Glenmore Lodge, Absorbotex skiwear, hedgehogs for footbeds . I expect they just gave it to you along with 10 A grade GCSEs. Pah!

Well done.

PhillipStanton, congratulations. You didn't exactly choose the right season to do it, did you? Though maybe better than wasting a really fantastic season snowploughing around!

Thanks everyone snowHead. I did the course mainly for my own development and couldn't teach in Morzine with what I've done anyway. But I may well gently have a go at going for my BASI 2 - if nothing else it's a great way accessing very high quality training and I suspect that teaching other people will teach me a lot about my skiing.

Spyderman - no, the course was Morzine, with Andy Jerram - although most of the course was run in Avoriaz. I don't yet know how the guys in Les Gets did.

Good luck skimottaret - the course is very developmental and I found it a hugely positive experience - I'm sure you'll have a great time. One piece of useful trivia you'll need for the written paper is that BASI was founded in 1967 wink

Bode Swiller - Laughing

And just to say thanks to stewart woodward for his motivational PMs.

PhillipStanton, well done on becoming a BASI 3 Instructor.
But, like you it seems, I am not sure exactly what that means.
I have perused the BASI site and can't find the term "BASI 3"
So are you ISIA (International Ski Instructors Association Award) or ISTD (International Ski Teacher Diploma)?
Both sound very grand.
ski holidays
 You know it makes sense.
You know it makes sense.
Nothing so grand Jonpim.

Apologies for the terminology - BASI have stopped using the "BASI 3", "BASI 2" and "BASI 1" terminology - although everyone within the system still seems to refer to the numbers. BASI 3 is the bog standard Instructor level - BASI 2 is the ISIA level and BASI 1 is the ISTD level.

pam w - whilst a season like last year would have been a lot nicer, it was frustrating enough having to snowplough on the few powder days we've had. Missing more powder days would have been torture. I could have done without the rain though!

PhillipStanton,
9 out of 10 passed in Les Gets.

You could do your Test Technique and work for ESF as a Stagiere.

Well done again.

Good to hear.

You are, of course, completely right. Although it's a direction I'm unlikely to take.

Unfortunately, MrsPhillipStanton didn't pass, although (like all of us) she improved immensely during the course. In the end she was let down by her carving.

PhillipStanton, well done indeed! I had a lesson from a BASI 3 in Arinsal recently (also called Marcus as it happened). The one thing he said was that the process had really improved his skiing and that by teaching, he'd learned a good deal more about his own skiing.

Apparently the big 2-week BASI get together is in Soldeu next year. April I think he said. I'd love to find the time/money to do this.

I did my first instructor course with Andy Jerram in 1998. I was in the RAF and did my Joint Services Alpine Ski Instructor course with him on the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier at Kaprun. He was a top bloke. Certainly knew how to drink schnapps. wink

Well done on passing the course. I was supposed to be on the same course as skimottaret but blew my knee a couple of days before so will now have to wait until December.

Well done mate. snowHead
