Poster: A snowHead

my daughter has tight gastrocnemius tendons. She can tolerate skiing with her ankles at 90 degrees or slightly flexed. What really kills her is walking with slightly flexed ankles. Are there any boots out there that will, say, in walk mode, allow the ankle to extend. I'm not sure raising her heels would help but that approach may be the only one available.
Any thoughts?

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Both the Nordica Olympia Speedmachine and Olympia Gran Sport models have different functions to accomadate these problems.

mij, as SMALLZOOKEEPER says there are a couple of boots that are fairly upright / extend backwars a bit, the other thing worth considering is a combination of lifting the heel a little a slightly stidffer than normal boot for her weight / ability to reduce the available flex and a good stretching program [assuming that it is muscular / tendon tightness and not a boney blockade in the ankle joint]

Thanks for the swift replies chaps. We're off to whistler at the end of the month so I'll try to track down a shop that stocks these boots.

I have a mild problem along the same lines (diagnosed as a kid but never bad enough to do anything about other than yell at me for walking on tiptoes all the time ) and ended up having lockwoods alter a pair for me (ground them to lessen the angle) which worked wonders - might be an option to consider?
Depends exactly how bad it is - after a lot of stretching and giving up high heels mine are a lot more flexible nowadays which also helps.

a.j., she's now 16 and been skiing for about 7 or so years. I think wearing ski boots have stretched her tendons/muscle so she can now walk "normally" in shoes. walking some distance in ski boots is pretty tough for her. If we can get her better boots - or solve the problem in another way - she would feel happier attempting the haute route next year. Its tough enough without having problems walking
