Poster: A snowHead

The International Ski Federation (FIS) is considering scrapping super-G events from the World Cup circuit. The event has been a part of the World Cup since the early 1980s. World Cup director, Guenther Hujara, confirmed that the FIS wants to shorten the ski season by excluding the super-G and sticking with the super-combined, which was launched last season. A special committee will propose striking the super-G from the World Cup calendar, when the FIS council meets in May....If the super-G is dropped from the World Cup circuit, it will most likely be removed from the Olympics as well. However, the event is already part of the program for the 2009 and 2011 World Championships and the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, so it is hard to imagine that these programs can be changed now.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

From a spectator's point of view this probably makes sense. SG is a bit too close to DH visually (and set on the same run) and super-combined has much more exciting end game.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Bode Swiller, how similar is a DH of today to an SG of 1990?

David Murdoch, well, DH is certainly more technical than it ever was, a bit more turney (if there is such a word). Would be interesting to see a 1990 DH alongside a 2007 SG. If I remember rightly SG only exists cos the FIS had to find a way to stop Mr Stenmark from winning the overall title by just skiing SL and GS. That's not an issue these days so time to replace with an event that's truely designed to see who is best allrounder.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Bode Swiller, You know, I think you might be right about the origination. My perception too is that a '07 DH is remarkably similar to a '90 SG so don't cancel the SG, just replace it with a Super-Downhill!!! (Trebles all round).
Actually, what about a real "combined". Gates of varying separation from DH to slalom all in one course? Free choice of discipline legal skis. But only one pair per course, and both feet have to match. That might be fun. Mix in freestyle and we'll have some real camera action.

I'd like that. After all, ultimately, it's all about who's the best, most skilled, skier.
Other improvements... A few snipers with AK47s on the way down would make it more of a visual spectacle, so too the "rotating knives" finish line - get the timing wrong there and you're history.

Bode Swiller, fantastic. And perhaps a Le Mans start (a la the Inferno some years ago)?

David Murdoch, Bode Swiller, with four skiers on the course at once, in a skier cross fashion.

laundryman, naaah, they'll be well used to that.
Slalom poles made from razor wire, limpet mines just off the ideal racing line, all taking place at night... with no flood lights. We'd soon find out who the best skier is. Maybe us plucky Brits will win at last.

Takeshi's Castle on snow. That would make great viewing.
I like the idea of a series of canvas screens to ski through, some concealing plyboard.

Chalky, I like that. What a pity you can't display the same originality of thought when grovelling to your bank manager.
