Ray Zorro, how can you remember that far back? I can't remember how many days I did last season, never mind when I started several years ago!

Ray Zorro, you are today's Marvo the Memory Man
I can't remember precisely but:
1982-1987 - averaged 10-12 days per season, all in Scotland
1988 - 1st week in Alps plus usual 10-12 days or so at home
1989 - 1992 - averaged 2-3 days, poor student Introduced future wife at Cairngorm 91. She liked it (phew).
1993 - 1998 - averaged about 10 days per season, most years 1 week in alps, all years several days in Scotland. Special mention for 95-96 when it never seemed to stop snowing from Feb-April
1998 - 2002 - had kids, disaster for ski time, I don't think I ever went a whole season with zero days though.
2003 - 4 day trip to France plus 2 at home, looking better
2004 - week in France plus 2 days at home, decidedly better
2005 - 4 day trip to Switzerland plus 4 days at home plus summer week in 2 alpes, kids' first week, they liked it (phew).
2006 - week in France plus 4 day trip France/Switzerland plus 5 days at home plus summer week in 2 alpes, now we're talking !
2007 - 7 days in Switzerland plus 3 in France so far, another 7 days definite coming up, 0 days at home so far (must rectify).

brian, that's more like it.
Mine's somewhat similar:
85: learn to ski, about 10-15? can't remember that detail
86-87: 10-15, improving and enjoying enormously.
88: pull a ligemnt, short season, maybe 5-10 days?
89-90: shack up with a Swiss. Lots and lots of ski days, mostly western US (we both live in the midwest of US at the time), one trip in Austria. Improve technique too thanks for the free coaching.
91-92: Job moved to Florida 1 week in 91, 0 in 92. Lossing the Swiss sugar daddy doesn't help either
93-94: back in the snow belt 10-20 (work nights so plenty of time, but no money, also everyone else is working so single supplement big time, no more free coaching any more )
95-99: ~10. getting bored with the same cruising on the same scenery. Usually 1 trip out to the Rockies (Alta my favorate). Start getting serious about nordic skiing, which takes snowtime away from downhill
00-04: shack up with a non-skier. total of 5-10 days in 5 years.
05: on my own again, but only 1 day. No, snow, no time to travel, no money either.
06: <10, shack up with another skier. But too late in the season to do trips. Start thinking of "upgrading" my 10 year old equipments though.
07: already about 10+ despite the late start of snow season, that's not counting another 5 doing nordic. Just getting my ski legs back and demo-ing stuff. 1 week coming up for MSB.

Megamum, me too. I haven't got the holidays or brownie points to fit it in this year. Might target the PSB which should be pretty budget being out of the main season and easier to do a short trip fitting in.

As a Rock Climber, Mountaineer, and Marathon runner I only got into skiing after a back injury stopped the running altogether, and seriously curtailed the rock climbing - so I learned to ski at the local dry slope at the end of 2004 at the age of 44 - skiing since then has been:
04/05 - 1 week Livigno
05/06 - 1 week Livigno, 1 week Portes du Soleil
06/07 - 1 week Cervinia, 1 week Ischgl, 1 week Portes du Soleil (go tonight!)
We are already looking at venues for 07/08 - Dolomites? and are now at the stage where ski trips take more money and holiday than summer trips.

Byron Gates, my first ski trip (aside from one morning in 2002 when I broke my knee on the first morning) was in 2005, and I was 46. I had learned to ski at the Snowdome, but it isn't the same.
I've done 8 weeks in the mountains now (plus more at the Snowdome) and I'm about to go off for the 9th week and I'm hooked. Good to know that there are other SH's who caught the bug at a later age

This is a good turn of the thread. I would love to see a list of people's skiing experience over the years and what they did right/wrong along the way. Helps beginers to sort out the real goods from hypes.
For example, for me, one thing I did right was buying my own boot at 1st season and getting finding a good boot fitter for the rest of my skiing years. What I did wrong was NOT having footbeds in my previous boots. Got them now, wish I had them earlier, years earlier.

abc, as for mistakes: I skied a little, with a couple of half day lessons, in the States in my early 20s. When I took it up again in my mid-30s, I imagined that I didn't need lessons, because I was pretty good at most sports and had 'done' skiing before. After a couple of years, I learned the error of my ways and now think that regular lessons are essential for recreational skiers at any level who wish to continue to improve. Maybe there are some 'naturals' out there to whom that doesn't apply, but not very many IMO.

abc,
my mistake was definitely stopping lessons - I have regressed further almost every trip. A false economy as I cannot ski as much of the terrain as I want or should be able to do after 12 weeks.

johntysandra, welcome to Snowheads!
1991 - 2001 - 1 week per season
01/02 and 02/03 - living in VT for the seasons.
03/04 - about 6 weeks.
04/05 - 3 weeks
05/06 - 2 days
06/07 - 2 days so far and hoping for 3 more before the end of the season.
The lack of skiing my life now is seriously seriously upsetting. I have a non skiing partner and it makes a huge difference.

07 38 and counting, Whistler is a blast in May, especially this year with record snowfall.
Wow, never thought of doing that before, seems about right though!
I'm lucky enough to live only 54 miles, about 87 km, from my local ski area and a 3 hour drive from Whistler. The last 5 yrs I've played music at the lodge for passes. The year before that I would ski every Monday and play at a bar in town Monday nights and make enough to cover the day of skiing. During the summer I like to go down to Mt Hood a couple times for summer skiing. This season my first day was at Hood in September. I'm 57 and don't plan on ever living farther than I do now from good skiing. My golfing buddies keep trying to get me to play but I have to tell them it's still ski season, they think I'm nuts!!

Been doing 2 hols a year since 1994 (started in 1988) except 3 years after we last moved (99) and had just one week in each of those years. This year is the first year I've had 3 trips (1 week Tignes, 4 days Serre Chevalier, weekend Morzine / Avoriaz) since 96 (3rd was admittedly the Cairngorm) - not doing bad by my own standards I think.

Managed 99 days in 2006, Verbier, Chamonix, Tignes, Valle Nevado and Saas Fee. Was hoping to hit the ton this year but won't be able to get away in July/August as I was hoping, so will have to contend with two weeks in NZ for my summer fix, and then foolishly committed to a postgraduate degree course which will restrict things next winter. I suppose there are other things in life besides skiing..

I think being in snowheads really cranks up your interest even if it starts at a low level. Cheap flights also help clock up the ski miles. I started off as a one week a year skier, then two and this year three separate weeks!
