Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Easter - GVA

OK got flights and car hire for GVA sorted(a while back) for Easter long weekend but deliberately have not booked accomodation. Anyone got suggestions for interesting places to stay to access decent resorts where bookings 1 or 2 nights at a time won't be a problem - thinking valleys and main towns rather than resorts to maximise flexibility. e.g. Sallanches rather than Chamonix, Sion for Val D'Annivers etc. Any suggestions and personal experiences welcomed. 2 Adults no bin lids.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Sallanches would be a good bet. Not interesting in the least, but would give you easy access to Chamonix and Flaine (obviously) but also, less obviously, Les Gervais, Les Contamines, Megeve, Combloux, even La Clusaz.

No real poshness threshold at all but want to steer clear of hostel dorms etc. Will consider F1 type options but only if there are no better alternatives.

fatbob, if you're interested in the Anniviers, you'd be better off staying up in the valley I think, the 25 minutes of hairpins would be a fairly painful start to each day. Although Sion does put you close to the 4Vs as well.

Edit: I'll be skiing there from easter monday if you want to meet up/avoid me etc.

fatbob, I did Saas Fee/Zermatt last Easter, staying in Saas Grund and Tasch. I had no problem getting accommodation for a couple of nights.

I stayed at the Hotel Touring at Saas Grund and the Alpenhotel at Tasch.

brian,

Tuesday would be our last day so its possible we could meet up. I'm thinking Les Contamines/ St Gervais/ Grand Montets/ Verbier/ D'Annivers could be an interesting 5 day itinery based around 2 hotel stops.
