Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Three Valleys

Poster: A snowHead
Hi,

Looking for some advice.

Thought I was going to have to miss my dose of snow this year due to commitments at home having learned to ski in Andora three years ago but have managed to get cheap flights from Edinburgh to Chambery Monday 19 March to Friday 23 March. Planning on hiring a car and staying in Moutiers/La Lechere area as accommodation is reasonably priced and not too far from 3 valleys ski area. Never having skied in France where would be the best place to head for in terms of slopes and car parking etc. I am an improving intermediate and am looking to spend the 3 days clocking up the miles on the piste (hopefully).

Very Happy

davidg, Brides de la Bain would make sense for accomodation. Moutiers IMHO is awful. A short drive from there to Courchevel le Praz or Meribel

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Brides la Bain is good - direct lift access to Meribel.
Courchevel 1300 La Praz - really nice village
La Tania - direct to Meribel & Courchevel.
Saint Bon - just below Courchevel, no lift access but free bus.
Like Frosty the Snowman, says Moutier is horrible.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

If you are in Moutiers with a car I suggest you spend the 30 minutes or so it will take you driving up to the top of Mottaret. There is car parking there and you are straight into the skiing. Maybe Meribel Chaudanne would be far enough and there is parking there too. That is about 20 minutes by car. I don't think it is worth driving to Brides to gondola up to Meribel. Far quicker by car.

I don't know whether you are going for the full 3V pass or just a local. I guess it depends on how far you expect to go. Either way, it just means getting up that half hour earlier to get full advantage from your precious ski time. Snow conditions are brilliant at the moment. Go for it and enjoy.
