Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Beware of Loose bindings on K2's

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
After 3 weeks skiing i had to return my K2 apache recons with Marker M12 bindings. The binding system is on a rail which slides into the ski and locks into place.

On my pair both front bindings could rock side to side and could be lifted up slightly from the ski rail, the rear part of the binding was rock solid. Once they were taken off the top sheet under the toe pieces showed a lot of wear. The ski technician said as this design is new this year he hasnt seen this problem before but said they werent right and needed to be looked at by K2 people.

I am now waiting to hear if they will be repaired or replaced. Am going on a 3 week trip in two weeks time so will not be happy to not have skis Mad

Has anyone heard of this as a generic problem on K2 with markers or am i just a one off.

skimottaret, I've not seen that particular problem before.

However on virtually all the new skis I get in for base prepping the bindings screws are not properly tightened - as is also the case with the majority of used skis I get in to tune. Checking the binding screws is the first thing I do. The correct tension is 4 to 4.5Nm & I use a torque screwdriver although after a bit of practice you get to be able to feel how tight that is.

spyderjon, on the new K2's there is a quarter turn lock on the back of the binding and once that is losend off the whole binding assembly comes off the ski. the ski has some built in pieces of angled steel that the binding clips into. the toe piece portion of the binding didnt sem to have any tightening or adjustment screws at all and didnt look particluarily strong to me...

i believe this is new for this years K2's according to the shop tech.

K2 recently published a recall on a particular binding but i think it was a DEMO version, and to do with the binding slipping best bet would be to call K2 yourself and ask 01527 510570 is the number i have

SMALLZOOKEEPER, K2 or not K2, that is the question. Whether it is nobler off the piste to enjoy the powder and bumps of extreme skiing, or stick to the groomers of Salomonity...
