Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Have a question on skis??

 Poster: A snowHead

Off in just under 2 weeks Very Happy and need adv on skis

I am intermediate to advanced, ski pretty much any piste groomed or not, also go off piste with piste in sight(ish) and more adventurous with guide.

Now I have always hired skis, save costly purchase, charged the pleasure to carry them and find then out of date in a few years..... that said would still like my own... Anyway I have the chance to take a set of 'Salomon Equipe 10 V3' skis which are a few years old and in reasonable condition versus a set of 'Salomon Equipe GC' (or similar last time as we paid to get the 'vip' pack they were fairly open to let us have whatever they had) from a hire shop.

I have never really taken much notice and maybe have been lucky with skis, and having never bought a set not really clued up on all the brands/types, so would anyone be able to tell me the diff between the ski options, length not an issue as offer set my usual hire length, though I was thinking of going slightly longer.

Also how much base damage is acceptable, would a slight scuffing along about 6 inches along the side, and a few 2 inch scratches be considered reasonable, edges appear ok, no dinks, however can their condition be judged by sight and feel or is the only way on the slopes?

David_S, The base damage sounds of little or no consequence. If you're concerned then email me a pic with a coin on the base for scale.

I haven't skied either of the skis you've mentioned but of all the Sallie range the Equipe's seem to be the most highly regarded.

I used to have a pair of Equipe 3Vs. Nice ski, although the GC Race is better, in my opinion.
If you can get a good deal on the 3Vs (anything around 150GBP), then I'd definitely consider it.

I skied on the Equipe 3vs for a day last season, and really liked them.
