Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

St Anton restuarants

We're off to St Anton tomorrow, staying B&B (Hotel Schindler). Rather belatedly I'm looking for recommendations for decent restaurants for dinner, preferably somewhere with a bit of character and not too expensive.

As there's only so much pig and dumpling one can take (in my case, quite a lot) any suggestions for Italians, Mexicans, that sort of thing, welcome, as well as for gemutlich Austrian joints.

richmond, I can't remember what it's called but there's a great french/modern european restaurant near the ice-rink in town. Booking is recommended but if you go in about half seven for dinner it's practically deserted. Gets a lot busier later on. Good wine list too, and complimentary schnapps at the end! I'll try googling for the name of the place

Also would welcome (if not hijacking the thread) the recommendations on the most do slopes/runs for confident on piste skiers (off psite being a different matter). Very Happy

Maximillian on the main road by the Spar was good. I know the one enaikay78 mentions, cant remember the name of it, but its a very posh looking place upstairs not too far from the Maximillian IIRC. The Train on the back street the Underground used to be on was also very good.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I like Cafe Sailer a lot, next to the tourist office. Typical Austrian food, nice!

richmond, Haus Schindler itself has a good chef. Order the lamb in advance!

For good but expensive food:

The restaurant in the wellness complex by the ice rink is Ben Venuto - a cross of oriental and italian. Superb (minimalist) food (but interesting prices)

Hazienda on the main Dorfstrasse is a favorite amongst monied locals.

For steaks try Sport Hotel

For Pizzas try Floriani (near Schindler) for a quiet one (but not on a Monday) or Pomodorio to see lots of people (expect to queue)

But there are loads of restaurants.

PS: Personally, I would give the Chinese restaurant a miss

The best place in the Valley used to be the Brunnerhof in St Jakob with 2 haube (2 michelin) but unfortunatly the seperate resturant closed two seasons ago because they couldnt afford the chefs. It is however a fantastic little Hotel.

Class food can be had in the Stubes of any of the 4,5* Hotels.

The Hazienda is has a nice atmosphere with its overflow of posers. Steaks are good here but expensive.

I would avoid any of the fastfood joints
Bobo,s pseudo mexican, over priced & poor quality.
Funky Chicken , Cheap basic food.

The Chineese is one of the oldest restuarants in town but I have not used it in 20 years.
Pizzas , I would eat at the Pizza places awazy from the centre. There is one opposite the HOtel Schindler & a good one in Nasserien

Bon Venuto is very good.

Museum is good to quite good . Nice to walk round the museaum between courses

UnderGround on the Piste , cheap & cheerfull (good quality) with live music.

http://www.montjola.com/restaurant.html does the finest fondue (not sure if they still do) in St Anton

The best Austrian food I had stand with your back to tourist office facing the slopes it sits on the left with a hot dog takeaway attached to it.

The only decent restaurant around there has since gone & been replaced
It was called D'Kuchl and was excellent.

Unfortunatly many restuarants have/are packing up in St Anton mainly becuase of the Chalet market and also because there is not enough money in it.

Some of the casulties this season include
Amalies Cafe
Cafe Sailor
