I'm thinking of buying a new jacket - specifically ONE OF THESE - what do you reckon, any good? Will it be warm / dry enough?
Also, is it actually worth buying a jacket I haven't actually seen in the flesh or would it be better waiting 'til I get to the resort? I'm going to Arinsal in 11 days but I don't know how the prices will compare.
Cheers!

I'm off to Canada in a couple of weeks and have bought a jacket from the states to be delivered to my friends house in BC...obviously have not seen it but I'm sure it will be fine and it's half the price I would pay for anything over here!
It's not always cheaper in resort as they have a captive audience so prices can reflect that accordingly.... the one you are looking at looks fine apart from the fact it's only 5000mm water/windproof etc... 10000 is a bit more useful if you get a seriously low temperature day ... otherwise it looks cool and a decent price too.
Have a good un

Yup, listen to greame.
I'd avoid Burton, too. I was well disappointed with one of their absolute bestest jackets. Shoddy fabric, iffy bits of design. dead comfy though, if it hadn't looked like I'd done 3-4 hard seasons after 8 day's riding, I'd have been dead chuffed.
That's just me though.
I'd definitely not buy something I'd not tried on, either. even if you're buying on the internet find a shop that stockd
s it and give it a go on befor you stump up your wedge, there could be any number of things that might annoy you, or maybe you like a baggy fit, so you go for a sizelarger, but it's made to be baggy, so you're drowning in it. Minefield!
Or maybe I'm just picky.
If I was buying, I'd try on some stuff in the UK, get a bit of a short list, check to see if there's some shops big enough in Arinsal that might have the same selection, then buy out there. (tax free in Andorra, right? If there's one you really want, phone the store and see if they've got it in the right size.
Happy shopping!
Oh, and I'd always get a shell, you can layer up underneath a shell, but you can't take the insultion out of a padded jacket if it's too warm.

Changabang - one of the best mountain shell jackets on the market at the moment IMHO.

Nor me. When I try on jackets (though trousers even more so) some are really comfortable, many aren't. Sizes are unpredictable too, as nedrapier says. I often find when trying them on I need two different sizes in two different makes of the same kind of jacket. You can't tell just looking at them on the hanger.

With you Scarpa!
After trying on shedloads, I ended up with the Changabang.
Still not a hundred percent sure about the RED, though!

what everyone else said + if you go to a shop and try on a jacket make sure you try it with different base layers.

daehwons, Good point... if you try on over a fleece jacket plus a sweat shirt in the shop that should cover most eventualities.

Doesn't bother me, I'm a medium in everything pretty much so happy to take the "risk"!

nedrapier, I like my red shell although mine is an extremely limited edition Lowe Alpine one that they designed in eVent but never made as they got the contract with Gore. I love it.

CANV CANVINGTON, Yup - but I use mine for other mountain sports, and my last jacket lasted 16 years. Got it in a sale as well. Very cheap in the long term.
