It depends where you're going. Where are you going?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Nothing has changed from the point of view of sports equipment including skis and boards as far as I'm aware. It's the people carrying 2 or more suitcases to check-in that are going to be hit.

cathy, thanks. I waded through it but there's a lot of cobfused info. still
As I understand it, you are allowed 23kg in a normal suitcase and then 1 piece of sports equipment (or a set as in skis, poles + boots) as an extra as long as that weighs no more than 23kg also.
So, if you are carrying sports equipment, you are allowed 46kg but it has to be in 2 separate suitcases.
Now, I have a Dakine wheelie bag, which literally fits everything in it. My skis, poles, boots, skiing gear, casual clothes, etc. I think this comes to 27kg. maybe 30kg if I actually lob the boots in.
Won't that be over the limit?

GordonFreeman, yes, the maximum weight for any bag is 23kg. So your Dakine bag would be too heavy. Pack 5kg of your stuff into a small bag, leave the rest on your Dakine one and you'll be fine, as you have sporting equipment. If, however, you decide to take two bags of luggage, regardless of weight (e.g. 11kg in one and 12kg in the other) you will have to pay for the extra bag.

BA must hate having customers (at least economy ones). Everything they do seems to be trying to ditch them - it's worked for me.

petemillis, Spot on - I can't understand why everyone is getting so worked up about this. For skiers/snowboarders who can keep all 23kg of their clothes etc in one bag nothing has changed. You still take your boots and skis in separate bags for nothing. Your hand luggage can weigh as much as you can carry as long as it doesn't exceed the maximum dimensions. Still a better deal than sleazy jet and ryanair.

Steve Sparks, actually they have been changing the wording for skis and boots to be in one bag ! but they seem to have changed back now. See separate thread under Trips

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

rayscoops, I agree their communication of this has been somewhat sloppy, but from conversations I had with check-in staff back in November I understand that it had always been their intention to allow boots and skis in separate bags.
