Hi everyone . A question for the masses.(sorry if its already been asked)
Are they any Good (www.snowclaw.com)??
Or would you object skiing with me off piste if i was possibly going to be the one to dig you out and i was carrying one of these instead of a shovel
They seem like a good idea and for a change dont have a ski product price

mistermouse, One of the guys in my group on my recent Warren Smith course had one. He carried it as well as a shovel - he actually carried it inside his pack, up against his back, as a back protector. When we did some tranceiver practice it worked just like in the manufacturer's video in soft fresh snow.
IMO, there's no way it could be used that easily in compacted avalanche snow - which is were the leverage of a conventional shovel comes in. It also looked to me like the users hands, which are in contact with the snow, would soon get pretty wet & cold.
So yes, if you're skiing with me please bring a shovel as well

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

They are a useful alternative for the situations when you would not carry a shovel. As for off piste - I would just carry your snowclaw and let you have my shovel. Simple.
