And could someone explain the American etymology of the word "buns"? Just seems odd that they would use an item of patisserie to describe a part of your anatomy. Like brits saying "nice cake!"

The septic fanny is that region, you're right. When in my early twenties and in the US with some mates, great mirth was had over the title of video spotted in a shop there: "Get a Tighter Fanny In Three Weeks" (or similar).
So yes, you'll have get yourself a better, tighter fanny if you work it on a Ski Dog.

I was after the etymology, not the definition. If you need the definition of etymology, umm, hang on, I've lost myself....
I like visual bakery metaphors though. Some baps might be more like danish pastries, some buns might be closer to bloomers. If you've got a nasty split tin, it's time for a check-up, and I don't even want to go near bagels...
